No team will challenge Holmes next year. It may not even be as close as it this year and its not close this year.

Possibly longer than that. I haven't had a chance to see them, but I've heard they have a very good 7th grade team as well that's loaded with talent.

Don't count out Dixie, in 2 years they should compete for the Regional title. Trammel will be a Senior, Pike will be a Junior and Hatton will be a Freshman. All will have 3 years of varsity experience and imo will be better than Holmes.

Holmes 7th grade is very strong. I don't believe the Holmes freshman nor the 8th grade teams are anything special. I know Beechwood's 8th grade team beat Holmes on Saturday. But Beechwood's 8th grade team only has one loss so they are pretty good.

 

I stand by my earlier post above. I believe Holmes will have a tougher time in N. Ky. next year than this year. N. Ky. is down this year and there are some very good young teams that will be much improved next year.

The Johnson Brothers both will run the point next year. Like someone said in a previous post, Holmes won't have a true point guard unless Henley decides to start 5'9 Herndon, which is very unlikely.

 

I'd expect either 6'3 Slusher or freshman to be, Mcclendon to be the 5th starter. Holmes will be very deep next year. Mcclendon is the shooter that will replace Riley. Kid is only an 8th grader but already has range like Riley. He can definetly shoot the rock though. He'll be a 50% shooter from outside.

 

I'll take that bet that a freshman will shoot 50% on 3's. He may be really good, but that doesn't happen a lot.

IMO the 9th region teams need to travel down state more often during the regular season. I know some already do this but they need to do so more. This will let them see the style other areas play and officiating as well. Then when the 9th gets to Rupp they will know what to expect. Alot of the 9th region teams can schedule their entire season and have less than a 25 minute ride to their farthest game. It helps with travel. But it dosen't help prepare for Rupp.

1. Don't forget that Holmes best 8th grader isnt playing 8th grade ball.

 

2. Why will other teams improve but Holmes will not? That is what you're saying if you think teams will compete more effectively against them next season. Are Rico, Pittman, JJ, Arnold, Slusher, McClendon, Jones and the others not going to get any better? Bigger?

Are you sure Jaylan plays for two teams? I know he plays for St. Augustine 7th and 8th grade team so he would have to play for two teams to be on both. Also, I heard some talk of him going to Dixie but of course that was just rumor so I don't know if it's true, but that sure would make them stronger.

He is related to him and I agree, but I'm just saying what I have heard which are rumors.

I think the 9th is definetly on the rise. IMO this year and next year will be two of the best years that we've ever seen, talent wise.

 

It's rare to have 1 D1 player in the region, let alone 4 on the same team in Holmes.

 

Highlands is going to be tough as will Boone next year because of their junior classes. I really think these three teams along with an improving Dixie and Covcath will help the other 9th region teams get over the hump against the state's top teams.

 

Instead of playing top teams close, I think having a team like Holmes in the region will help the other teams finally get over the hump and win games like Boone lost last night to Ballard and Highlands lost to Madison Central, both top 20 teams.

 

I'd be hard pressed to believe this isn't some of the best talent we've ever had here in nky as a whole.

A few years ago the area produced Brock, Doellman, and Neltner in the same class. Not too bad at all.

They will more than likely all have another good summer of AAU. Pittman and R. Johnson are already known on a national scale. I think once the scouts see J. Johnson, Arnold, and Slusher this summer it won't be no doubt they are a top 10 team. It's crazy when you think about 6'7, 6'6, 6'5, 6'4, in starting lineup and you could probably add a 6'3 to the lineup if Slusher gets the spot. Also it's a sleeper on the freshman team. They will more than likely go 9 deep next year. With no one under 6'2 seeing the floor. On a side note I think Highlands and Holmes will be in a class of there own next year in the region. I agree that 9th region play will get better over the next few years. Highlands should at least be a top 15 team in the state next year. Hopefully Cov. Cath will return to form and be a top 20 team in state.

 

What AAU team do they play for?

It seems they would probably be better served by getting into an AAu system that goes national more than regional. The Shining Stars program is really good, and I would guess that RJ and EP would be good enough for Eddie Ford's teams.

Johnson Brothers, Pittman, and Arnold all 4 play for the Queen City Prophets. They travel all around the country and had a strong showing last year at nationals.

 

Prophets are one of the elite Ohio teams.
