In a full blown recession for someone who wanted accountability with how our money is spent, should Obama have such a large inauguration?

I think the cost is excessive. I'm fine with a huge turnout and increase in cost to deal with it, but it seems there is a degree of extravagance that is superfluous, especially considering the economic climate. But, at the end of the day I'm probably not going to lose any sleep over it.

I am really not as concerned with the cost as I am with the apparent loss of an independent media. The celebratory reporting of the upcoming inauguration is a stark contrast to the way the same media reported Bush's inauguration.

If the federal government begins bailing out the nation's largest media concerns, does anybody believe that it will not result in even more media boosterism on Obama's behalf? Of course, that will undoubtedly be followed by the media's self examination about whether they have been too soft with their coverage of Obama. The question is when will that self-examination finally occur - 2017 will be a little late, IMO.

As I said, if Obama was a Republican we wouldn't see the media slobbering all over themselves every time they mention his name.

I agree fully. It's not that the taxpayers' part of the tab is not excessive, it clearly is, but with Obama promising trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see, the inauguration cost is the least of our problems. With nit-wits Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi deciding which bills to send to Obama and a lapdog media, there is not really anybody left to hold the Democrats accountable.

Same thoughts here, HT.

I think it should be celebrated but to the tune of 150 Mil is a bit excessive.

However, go back and research how much previous inaugurations cost. Include the costs for security, transportation, and other tangents such as hospitality, labor, etc.

In my searches, I've found that the cost for Obama's inauguration are comparable to Bush and Clinton.
