January 19, 200917 yr Even if there's no threat to the border patrol agents? Shoot first. Ask questions later? Don't cross the border illegally.
January 19, 200917 yr I feel all illegals should be shot if running from Border Patrol. Unarmed humans????????? Children? Babies?
January 20, 200917 yr Just like pardons, I'm not comfortable with a lame duck President with one foot out the door and his bags packed for Texas overriding actual law. The guidelines for this crime were handed down by Congress with no exceptions to the minimum 10 year penalty. 100% politics without having a factual basis. How do you feel about the pardon the illegal drug smuggler received. You keep saying that it was because of botched work by the boarder patrol agents, but the truth is his testimony along with the drugs recovered were enough to convict him of smuggling. The fact is he was given immunity for his testimony. The prosecutor in effect gave him a pardon.
January 20, 200917 yr We need to clear something up this. Bush did not pardon the two border agents. He only commuted their sentences. Their conviction will still stand. Bush said he thought their sentences of 10 years were too harsh. They will end up serving 2 years and few months. I have no problem with him doing this in this case. But very uncomfortable with this habit of letting people off as they leave the office.
January 20, 200917 yr At least there is no evidence that the commutations were purchased through large political donations. And that makes it right now?
January 20, 200917 yr Unarmed humans????????? Children? Babies? Children and women no. Men, even unarmed men, smuggling drugs. Yes.
January 20, 200917 yr Children and women no. Men, even unarmed men, smuggling drugs. Yes. How can you tell if they are smuggling drugs or not?
January 20, 200917 yr And that makes it right now?Sure. That is the reason that Bush's decision was right. There is no other reason for commuting the sentences of two border guards trying to do their job.
January 20, 200917 yr How can you tell if they are smuggling drugs or not? Not my job, so I don't know. Drastic times calls for drastic measures. The 5th largest economy in the world(California) is on the verge of total collapse and bankruptcy because of problems related directly to illegal immigration.

The 5th largest economy in the world(California) is on the verge of total collapse and bankruptcy because of problems related directly to illegal immigration. Just to clarify...are you saying that if they (border agents) somehow KNOW that the person is smuggling drugs, you are fine with them shooting them. However, if they don't know, then no. Is that accurate?
January 20, 200917 yr Just to clarify...are you saying that if they (border agents) somehow KNOW that the person is smuggling drugs, you are fine with them shooting them. However, if they don't know, then no. Is that accurate? Somewhat accurate. If they have intelligence that they are smuggling drugs, are identified as known drug smugglers, or are armed, then yes, shot on site.
January 20, 200917 yr Just to clarify...are you saying that if they (border agents) somehow KNOW that the person is smuggling drugs, you are fine with them shooting them. However, if they don't know, then no. Is that accurate? Our borders should be protected period. Intruders who do not respond to verbal orders to stop should be shot, if necessary, to prevent escape. However, as PepRock detailed, this policy should be preceded by a very aggressive informational campaign, including large signs along the border. Unlike PepRock, I would give the foreign invaders an opportunity to surrender but they should not be allowed to flee northward with impunity if they fail to follow clear instructions by the men and women charged with securing our borders and protecting our sovereign rights. Otherwise, I agree that drastic measures should be adopted to keep would-be illegal immigrants on their side of the border. I also agree that our government needs to expand its legal immigration program because this country needs legal immigrants.
January 20, 200917 yr Sure. That is the reason that Bush's decision was right. There is no other reason for commuting the sentences of two border guards trying to do their job. There are certainly other reasons. None of them happen to follow the law or the facts of the case though. The reason , as I stated, is pure politics.
