NKY Poll: Week 7

Recommended Posts

Boone and Highlands should be swtiched.

I'd also have Beechwood move up to #6 and would Ryle as #7. Othe than that it looks pretty decent to me.

I'd move Ryle back to 9 with Connor and move the rest up one slot. I, also, would switch Highlands and Boone County.

I'd go with this:

1. Holmes

2. Scott

3. Highlands

4. Boone

5. Beechwood

6. Campbell Co (Yes I know they beat Beechwood)

7. Brossart

8. Ryle

9. Conner

10. Holy Cross

You could pretty much take 2-7 and mix and match and have a pretty solid argument. This is about as much parity as I can remember in N Ky basketball outside of the overwhelming #1.

Boone should be 2nd based on having a better record than Scott and most of the rest of of the teams in NKY (except Beechwood), and winning over Scott on their home court. True they lost to Highlands on Highlands' home court, but I don't see how you can put Highlands ahead of Boone after their losses to NCC and Brossart. I do think it is fairly close between the 2-5 positions. Highlands has a nice win over top 20 Mason. Boone beat top 20 Perry County and played top 5 Eastern and top 20 Trinity to the wire.

Tough for me to put Scott at #2 having lost to Boone at home but with big district wins over Campbell & Brossart last week they are deserving as anyone.

I would probably go with:

1. Holmes

2. Boone Co

3. Highlands

4. Scott

5. Campbell Co

6. Beechwood

7. Brossart

8. Holy Cross

9. Ryle

10. Conner

On any given day 2-??? can beat anyone else in the poll.

These polls are based on a week to week basis and how teams are playing RIGHT NOW...not over the course of the season. Scott and Highlands should both be ranked ahead of Boone. Both have more top 20 wins and what poll is Perry County ranked in the top 20?. IMO there's atleast 4 teams in nky that would beat them and a 2 point win over Campbell Co wasn't that impressive either.

Right now Boone is fine right around #4. Scott and Highlands are both playing better ball than them which is how this poll is based. Like everyone else said though..2-10 is really a crapshoot so it doesn't really matter where they're ranked.

What poll are you referring to? BGP is not the only poll or necessarily the best. A win is a win. Nobody says you have to clobber everyone by 20. Some of Holmes' wins have not been impressive either (Conner game is one that comes to mind). Boone has won their last 2, one by 30, and one by 2. Highlands lost it's last game. That is how they are playing RIGHT NOW.

Highlands is a good team, but they also have 3 losses to single A schools. They have a top 20 win over Mason, and who else? Scott has a top 20 win over Corbin, and who else? Boone beat Corbin and Adair last year when both were in the top 20, but that didn't mean a lot in the end.

Boone beat Scott and has a better overall record playing against a slightly stronger schedule, so if you use that logic, they should be ranked ahead of Scott. You have used the same argument as to how Scott Co. should not be ranked over Holmes.

Boone is 4-1 against teams in this NKY poll. Highlands is 1-2 against teams in this poll. Scott is also 4-1 against teams in this poll. I don't see how you can separate the three by much based on that. Based on this criteria, Scott and Boone would be ranked ahead of Highlands.

Scott also only beat Campbell by 2 (like Boone) and had to survive a 3 rimming out at the buzzer to get the win. They beat Brossart by only 4 in the next game. They have won their last 4, but only 4 of their last 6. How is that more impressive than Boone? Boone has won 2 of its last 3 and 7 of its last 8. Highlands has also won 7 of its last 8. I could also see an argument for Highlands 2, Boone 3, and Scott 4.

As you said earlier in the thread "Only two coaches voted and I don't think the past week's games were factored in, so not sure how much stock you can put in to this poll."

Maxpreps is the only poll I've seen Perry County ranked in. That same poll also has Scott Co ahead of Holmes. You do the math.

Sure Holmes has a few close games but Scott Co (#2), Ballard (#8), and Conner are the only three teams to come within double digits of them through 17 games and the Scott Co game Holmes led by as many as 17. You also failed to mention that Pittman sat out the WHOLE first half against Conner and Ballard both. That's a big detail.

Highlands is a good team, but they also have 3 losses to single A schools. They have a top 20 win over Mason, and who else? Scott has a top 20 win over Corbin, and who else? Boone beat Corbin and Adair last year when both were in the top 20, but that didn't mean a lot in the end.

Two of those losses came within the first two weeks of the season. Not sure how much stock you can put in to those games. We'll find out here in about a month if the W for NCC over Highlands was a fluke or not. I don't put much stock in to early season losses for a team. (See Holmes v Bryan Station in the second game of the year and then two weeks later) Both Scott and Highlands have top 20 wins. How many does Boone have? BTW, if Boone is considered a top 20 team, Highlands has two top 20 wins, not one. :sssh:;)

Boone beat Scott and has a better overall record playing against a slightly stronger schedule, so if you use that logic, they should be ranked ahead of Scott. You have used the same argument as to how Scott Co. should not be ranked over Holmes.

Holmes also defeated the only team to beat them though and defeated SC. Much more legit argument my friend as to why Holmes should be ahead of SC. Boone didn't dominate by any means to make people feel like they are clearly better than Scott. Holmes dominated SC.

The bolded part in this last quoted part says it all. Highlands is one of the hottest teams in nky right now. I personally see it the same way as you and think 2-4 could be pulled out of a hat, but Highlands is just the team that I'd personally have in front of Boone. I could understand if Highlands barely beat them but they beat them by 14 points and it was never really close. Highlands is clearly the better team compared to Boone. We'll find out more tonight about them when they play Campbell Co.
