Maxpreps is the only poll I've seen Perry County ranked in. That same poll also has Scott Co ahead of Holmes. You do the math.

 

Sure Holmes has a few close games but Scott Co (#2), Ballard (#8), and Conner are the only three teams to come within double digits of them through 17 games and the Scott Co game Holmes led by as many as 17. You also failed to mention that Pittman sat out the WHOLE first half against Conner and Ballard both. That's a big detail.

 

 

 

Two of those losses came within the first two weeks of the season. Not sure how much stock you can put in to those games. We'll find out here in about a month if the W for NCC over Highlands was a fluke or not. I don't put much stock in to early season losses for a team. (See Holmes v Bryan Station in the second game of the year and then two weeks later) Both Scott and Highlands have top 20 wins. How many does Boone have? BTW, if Boone is considered a top 20 team, Highlands has two top 20 wins, not one. :sssh:

 

 

 

Holmes also defeated the only team to beat them though and defeated SC. Much more legit argument my friend as to why Holmes should be ahead of SC. Boone didn't dominate by any means to make people feel like they are clearly better than Scott. Holmes dominated SC.

The bolded part in this last quoted part says it all. Highlands is one of the hottest teams in nky right now. I personally see it the same way as you and think 2-4 could be pulled out of a hat, but Highlands is just the team that I'd personally have in front of Boone. I could understand if Highlands barely beat them but they beat them by 14 points and it was never really close. Highlands is clearly the better team compared to Boone. We'll find out more tonight about them when they play Campbell Co.

I know you are a a Highlands fan, but I disagree that Highlands is the better team. Boone has also won 7 of its last 8. Highlands did not dominate Boone. It was 4 points at halftime. Boone was outplayed in the second half of that game. The last 4-5 points were made because Boone had to put Highlands at the line. If the two played again on a neutral or Boone's court, I could see the result going the other way. Both are good teams, and I give Highlands credit, but I don't think one team is CLEARLY better than the other at this point, and I think both are probably a little better than Scott, but all 3 are close. Take away Boone's two early close losses in the 5th-3rd to good teams, and they have only one loss.

 

Holmes dominated SC for 3 quarters, but SC was making a run in the 4th when they started pressing and just ran out of time in the end.

Scott has two top 20 wins in Corbin and South Laurel. They beat both of them in the Hooping It Up Tournament at South Laurel so each game was an away game they played there and they took both out convincingly. They also had an impressive win over a Potomac, VA team in that same tournament. They have also played Mason County and Clark County extremely well in their games. The final score may not show it but it was the case (Scott/Mason game was only a 5 point game going into the last 2 minutes of othe 4th quarter when Scott ran out of gas and Mason caught fire) (Scott/GRC was only a 3 point game going into the last minute and the Eagles had to start fouling to have any shot at winning the game). Scott also has an impressive blowout win against Ryle @ Ryle. Scott hasn't been outplayed or dominated game maybe for the exception of Moeller from Ohio.

 

To be honest though you can make a case for Scott, Boone County, and Highlands for the #2 spot. No poll will ever completely satisfy everybody as none of them will ever be perfect. Its a crap-shoot week-in and week-out.

Highlands three losses are by a combined 12 points which is less than Boone's ONE loss to Highlands. I'd say it's tough to argue Boone being the better team of the two. We'll have to wait until region to find out though. LIke Baseballislife said, nky is so wide open this year, it's a crapshoot after Holmes and a legit argument can be made for Boone, Highlands, and Scott all being #2.

 

SC didn't make their run in the 4th until JJ had to come out with an injury. Anyone who was there can tell you that. If he doesn't go out with that injury for 3 minutes, Holmes wins by 10+. They were getting basket after basket in transition against SC's press until JJ came out and Arnold had to start handling the ball more. He had 4 straight to's which allowed SC to get within 3 after trailing by 11.

I'd also throw in Conner as well and their big win over GRC today. Only problem with them is they're so inconsistent. One night they look like a top 3 team, and the next they look like they don't belong in the top 10. NKY basketball as a whole is better than given credit for though.
