Meeks' 54 points....it was average.

Featured Replies

Mulling over some numbers and I began to realize that as amazing as Jodie Meeks' game was the other night and as much attention as he has gotten over the last few days, it was an average game.....for Pete Maravich.

Meeks had 54 points with 10 threes. No three-point line in Pete's day. So, 54-10=44. Pete's career scoring average was 44. Just an average game Jodie.;)

Also, Pistol Pete shot 44% for his career from the field and shot 38 field goal attempts per game--it was a more uptempo game back then but WOW! I know with numbers like that some of you will say Pete was overrated because we all know you can't have a great game if you shoot more than 25 times in a game.

Too bad guys never played defense back then, of course, there wasn't a whole lot of D from Tennessee the other night either.

Compared to today, no. The athletes weren't as good as today and they ran a lot more but hard to say they didn't play ANY defense.

We have to remember though Pistil didn't have many other options besides himself either kind of like a Curry situation. Meeks has Patterson who is also scoring 19 ppg. No doubt though, Pistil was still very, very, very good. IMO

You can definitely have a great game shooting more than 25 times a game, as long as they are good shots and not shots while you are double teamed and have a wide open teammate you could easily pass to.

Meeks took 22 shots and scored 54 points. He didn't force anything, he simply made everything...

14-14 say more to me about him as a player than any other stat....................

Also, Meeks' team won the game.

I do not believe the Pistol ever beat UK, or even play in the NCAA Tournament.

Yes, it is. Surprisingly, the Pistol only shot around 77% from the FT line.

Very surprising - Love Pistol Pete - the movie was great!

You have to remember that conferences sent only one team to the NCAA tournament. Had the field been 64 teams, LSU would have gone in Pete's senior season with a 20-8 record. The year before the Pistol era began at LSU, the team posted a 3-20 record. Kentucky won the SEC championship in each of the three seasons that Maravich played.

When a person shoots 38 times a game to score 44 a game that's not very impressive at all. Scoring 54 on 22 shots is impressive. So no!, Jodie didn't have an average game.:D

Shooting 38 times to score 44 a game with no 3-point line on average is impressive. I read an estimate that Maravich would have averaged 57 points a game had the 3-point rule been in effect during his college career.
