McNabb a HOFer?

Interesting discussion on Mike and Mike this morning.

Not as of the moment. McNabb has never been 1st team All Pro, MVP, or won the Super Bowl. He is seen as a player who does not perform well under pressure, which is a tough stigma to overcome. He has a relatively low completion percentage and TD percentage and a relatively high interception and sack percentage.

That being said, he wins the Super Bowl and hangs around for a few more years and puts up some decent numbers, he'll likely earn a spot. It is a very tough task for a non-Super winning QB to reach Canton and I don't think he can do it.

Would have been interesting to hear that conversation on Mike and Mike...any main points that they had?

I am a huge McNabb fan, which is no surprise. I don't think I would call him an HOFer as of now either. But as cooperstown pointed out, I think a Super Bowl ring (fingers crossed) increases his chances.

Greeny compared him to Barkley/Ewing. HOF players that never played along side another elite caliber player. Only year McNabb did, with T.O., they went to the Superbowl and lost by 3 (although Owens did not play in the two playoff games).

^ Although he was a little better than McNabb through his career, a football comparison I would look at would be John Elway.

You think McNabb and Elway are comparable?? On what basis?

The fact both of their teams had a lot of success with them at the helm with relatively no superstar sidekick.

McNabb is not near the player Elway was, and that is not what I am saying; but, it is hard to dispute the W's/L's the Eagles have produced while he has been there.

I think Westbrook qualifies as a pretty decent superstar sidekick. I agree that Philly has never surrounded McNabb with great WR's - other than the one year with Owens - but honestly - running a West-coast type offense, do you really need superstar WR's along the lines of a Moss?

If Ken Anderson is not a Hall of Famer, I don't see how McNabb could be.

They were saying that McNabb's numbers were comparable, with the obvious exception of rings, with those of Aikman and Young; and that in 2-3 more years, McNabb would obliterate those numbers.

Who was using these players for comparison? I don't have stats in front of me, but I would guess McNabb's numbers would be comparable to Aikman, but not Young.

Westbrook is a nice player. He is just underutilized running the ball and is always injured.

No, but it certainly makes a HUGE difference with a big time go to guy that can bail you out in situations where there is nobody to go to. Just ask Eli Manning, et al. Besides Owens, I am not sure who the best WR McNabb has had? James Thrash? Freddie Mitchell? Todd Pinkston? DeSean Jackson? Westbrook has probably been the best receiver.

Young was not a starter very long in the NFL. McNabb may pass him yardage and TD number wise, but not from an overall efficiency standpoint or per game averages.
