Maile has taken A LOT of shots to put up the numbers that he does. Pittman, R. Johnson, or Riley would all 3 be a better asset to the Covcath team. I think the majority of the CCH faithful would probably agree with that. I'd be surprised if Maile won it.

Which further explains why Pittman should win it if juniors are considered. During their 5 games against Bryan Station, Scott Co, Ballard, Tates Creek, and Knox Central, he averaged 21 PPG while going 50-74 from the field and averaging just under 10 RPG..

Is POY strictly a "stat" thing...or do you consider "intangibles" (leadership, scholarship, attitude, sportsmanship, value to the team, etc....)?

Honestly if I were playing Holmes I would play very physical with Pittman and focus on Riley, making sure he didn't hurt you. You know that Pittman and Ricardo will get theirs, but you can't let others get off.

These stats make me consider McFarland more and Riley less.

 

And I can only laugh at the Maile potshots. What else can CovCath and Maile do? Someone needs to score if you want to try and win. There just aren't many options on offense which actually makes Maile's stats even more impressive. I bet a lot of "CovCath faithful" would be surprised to see Maile's assists average only 1 per game less than Riley's.

Phares of SC tried that and ended up sitting on the bench. Being physical with a player isn't always the answer.

 

And doing all that is much easier said than done against a team like Holmes. Too many weapons to focus on just two or even three players.

I'd also consider Pittman and Rico better defenders than Maile. There's more to a player's game than just offense. Pittman, Riley, and R. I agree with you on that part of the overall game.

I would disagree with McFarland after seeing him play tonight against Highlands. He just doesnt "stand out" to me. I think it comes down to Pittman, Riley, Maile, and Kowlowneck, if its between juniors and seniors. Because IMO, these are the top 4 players in the 9th region this year.

 

That was probably McFarland's first bad game. He has been playing very well most of the year.

I was recently talking to a college coach about Holmes junior Elijah Pittman. He allowed that Pittman didn't just have a frame to play Division I basketball, but that he had an "NBA frame."
