9th Region D1 POY

Pittman, hands down. Riley is close. It's down to those two. I don't know how Kowolenek would be in the conversation. Good ball player, but not the same as Pittman.

Ricardo might not be getting the stats neccessary, but he does so much other stuff for the team. He can take over a game when they need him to and I would want the ball in his hands in crunch time. JMO...One example is the Connor game where he took control of the game in the 4th for holmes.

Not saying Ricardo isn't a great player was just stating the stats. I love the kids game, he doesn't force shots and plays defense.

What would your top 10 be to date, not just D1 but everyone.

For me, I really don't have a top 10 because I haven't seen all of the teams and wouldn't want to discount someone. I agree with you on the Holmes players mentioned and as you do I like Rico's game a lot too.

I don't think there's anyway Kowolonek is in the conversation.

I think he deserves to be in the conversation.

Definately in top 10, but not in POY awards. JMO

Player of the year? Really? I think he's good, but I can't put him in the same league as Pittman, R. Johnson, or Maile. As a junior, hopefully he'll continue to grow as a player, and possibly be in the equation next year.

The thread is flawed, starting with the title. There is no 9th Region Division I POY, only an NKAC Division I POY. The NKAC is divided into three divisions, as we all know the 9th Region is not. NKAC Division I includes Simon Kenton, Scott, and Campbell County, none of which are in the 9th region, but all of whom may have players chosen as NKAC all-stars, etc.

Further, Highlands is Division II in the NKAC, thus moot in this discusssion.

Actually there's a NKAC D1 POY and a NKCA POY. Henderson got NKAC D1 POY last year, Sorrell got NKCA (Coaches Association) POY.

As far as the debate between Maile, McFarland, and Riley, Riley would win in a land slide. Big performances in big games would be the deciding factor.

If juniors are included as well, R. Johnson or Pittman will win it. I'd be very surprised if one of the Holmes "big 3" didn't win it.

I agree. I think Pittman is the front runner by a big margin. R. Johnson is hands down the second best player in the region. I don't know his stats, but they can't be far behind Riley. I know he had 27 against BS, and he scored in double figures in the rematch as well. Its still a lot of basketball left though, and in the second half of the season I think Pittman and R. Johnson will separate from the rest of the pack. They might have already played the hardest part of there schedule in the regular season.

According to NKY.com:

Pittman:

16.9 PPG (Second in nky in total points scored with 234)

7.4 RPG

2.3 BPG

FG %- 55.3

FT %- 71.2

R. Johnson:

11.2 PPG

5.0 RPG

3.6 APG

FG %: 43.6

FT %: 71.4

Riley:

10.9 PPG

2.1 RPG

2.8 APG

FG %: 48.9

3pt FG %: 51.0 (Rounded up from 50.8)

FT %: 76.3

Maile:

17.2 PPG

4.4 RPG

1.7 APG

FG %: 44.1

FT %: 66.7

McFarland:

13.1 PPG

7 RPG

3.6 APG

FG %: 46.6

FT %: 67.7

Looking at the stats makes it even tougher not to pick one of the Holmes "Big 3."

If it's not a senior award I would say Pittman, If it is I would say Riley. IMO Holmes has the top four players in the region.

I agree with you on Pittman. Could you throw Maile in too?:idunno:

Is POY strictly a "stat" thing...or do you consider "intangibles" (leadership, scholarship, attitude, sportsmanship, value to the team, etc....)?
