1/7/09 16th Region Poll

I was looking for it the other day. I was wondering the same thing.

If I had to rank them, I would probably go:

 

1. Elliott - their worst against West's best and they still won by 12 points

2. West Carter - 8-0 against 16th region teams not named Elliott County

3a. Ashland - Much improved team this season

3b. Fairview - Playing good as expected

5. Menifee - Only region loss is to West; what can you say? Surprising team

6. East Carter - Disappointing so far, but talent to be there at the end

7. Bath - Not playing as well as expected, but not playing bad, either

8. Greenup - Big game coming up with West Carter

9. Rose Hill - Playing a little better than expected with some young talent

10. Morgan - Always competitive

11. Lewis - Thought they'd be a little better, chance to prove it at Elliott

12. Rowan - Have a young superstar in the making

13. Raceland - Another huge disappointment thus far; 2-8 vs. the 16th region?

14. Fleming - The talent is there; what's the problem?

15. Boyd - Only win in the region is against Raceland

16. Russell - Only win in region is against Boyd, but they're 1-10 overall...

Good poll....Lewis may be higher but we shall see....Boyd's win was over Boyles-less Racleland and they lost by 16 to Russell...East will be #2 by season's end....Menifee will lose to some of the better teams down the road....

I'm thinking you might want to rethink the bottom of this after Russell just beat Ashland. Not to mention Ashland's position.

Ashland has gotten a bit complacent lately. The way they played in the tourney at Johnson Central in no way looks like their recent efforts. Coach Biggs probably hit it on the head at post game when he said work has fallen off at practice. Betcha that changes starting early in the morning! But they should hang around at 3rd or 4th in the poll.

Duck's poll is pretty close except I would still have West a little ahead of Fairview. Those two are playing very shortly so we will know. Rose Hill and Terry I would have ahead of Greenup. Have not seen Terry so looking forward to seeing him on 17 Jan at Menifee in the All A. Heard he is a good young player (6'6" or 6'7" freshman I believe). How close can Fairview play Elliott?? Haven't seen Fairview (Collins, Jackson, Evans), but we will find out in 7 days in Frenchburg?? How close can Menifee play Elliott?? Will also get that question answered if EC beats Fairview in 7 days?? Bath's 21 pt. win over Montgomery was impressive with Metz scoring 38 pts. and Maze 23. A Bath County-Rose Hill All A SF game could be a very good game (if RH beats Raceland which they should).

Looks about right to me but I would move Russell up one spot.

You're probably right, but West taking Elliott down to the wire the other night gives a ray of hope to some others in the region.

 

Hope may keep you going but it often breaks you heart.

I personally think people put too much stock in rankings. Everyone's ranking would be accurate this year as long as they have Elliott #1. The rest would all be in various positions based on where your loyalty stands. Even with Elliott being the clear favorite ANYONE can be beat......just ask last years New England Patriots.
