I think if we are going to say the Big XII is overrated then we can make a case for SEC being overrated as well.

 

Taking that into consideration, I think there's a lot of time when people put too much stock into one game. The highs are always too high and the lows are usually too low.

 

After USC beat down OSU early in the season, everybody was predicting that the Trojans would certainly play for the national championship. And yet they aren't. And when Florida got beat during the regular season, most people thought that killed their chances. And yet, obviously things changed.

 

Picking teams from the middle of the pack and playing them against each other really doesn't determine anything. If Oklahoma beats Florida, I don't know that you can really say the Bix IX is better than the SEC - it just means Oklahoma is better than Florida. JMO

Mizzou beat Northwestern but both were ranked pretty close to each other going into that game. Kansas and Minnesota were probably pretty close in talent but Kansas won by 21. Texas beat OSU who was a top 10 team in the nation whether you like it or not. OSU was not slouch. Clemson did fire Bowden mid season but thats when they turned around their season and got a lot better under Dabo so NU's win over them was no slouch either.

 

And as far as the Big 10 and SEC didnt UGA struggle with MSU and didnt Iowa put a beatdown on South Carolina? As you have already pointed out Bama lost to Utah.

I could understand those points except OSU hasn't beaten a good team outside of the B10 since the first game of the year 3 years ago and that team started a frosh QB. They can't beat top 10 teams ever. That game told me more about the quality of the B12 than about OSU being good. UGA never had a chance to lose their game. Iowa was the 3rd best team in the B10 at the end of the year. Minnesota won 1 game last year. Think about it a minute. The B12 looked godd against each other b/c they didna't play good defense. Ok St. was supposed to be good and them and TT were double digit losers. Oklahoma is probably good enough to beat Florida but they have a lot to prove about the conference and for themselves w/ the way they've played in BCS bowls lately.

That frosh QB threw for over 2,500 yards and 29 TD's that year. Ohio State has been beaten badly in 2 of their last 3 bowl games, but they have won some big games since Tressel arrived in Columbus. In and out of conference play.

 

In 2002 they beat a Miami Hurricane team who had won around 30 straight games.

 

2003 they defeated a Kansas State team, who won the Big 12, in the Fiesta Bowl.

 

In 2005 the Buckeyes beat a pretty good Notre Dame team in the Fiesta Bowl. They also played the National Champion Texas pretty close, and without Troy Smith starting and playing early in that game. Sure say that's an excuse, but you play a game against a team like Texas without your starting QB, you tell me if it affects anything.

 

In 2006 Ohio State whipped Texas all over their home field.

 

Sure they have lost 2 NC games, and they lost a nail biter to a Texas team who out of anyone should deserve to be in the NC game. The hatred for Ohio State amazes me on here.

We're talking about beating NW and Minnesota. Not exactly a who's who of college football schools, plus a team that fired their coach midseason. Call it what you want. OU has a chance to prove the conferences worth tomorrow. I still think the conference is good, but at one point this year they had 4 of the top 11 teams in the country. That is obviously not the case.

Notre Dame deserved that BCS game, and they were 6 points away from playing in the National Championship game, please give me a break.

I must admit I'm no OSU fan, but I must also say you make a great point here. Although, in the interest of full disclosure, I still think UM got shafted in the NC game against OSU.

This year I think overall Big 12 was overrated. Power shifts from year to year. SEC is the best year in and year out but other shift from year to year. Will wait and see how things shape up next year but this year yes they were overrated.

Nobody plays any defense. I think the conference was bloated with hyped quarterbacks. Good ones, mind you, but at the end of the day I still like the SEC and Pac-10, who both have more balance. Mountain West also very strong this year.

 

IMO, in a typical college football season, the SEC is the best conference, the Big 12 is usually a little overrated, and the Pac-10 is usually underappreciated. This year was no different.

OSU won a big game 3 years ago against a freshman making his first start of his career. ND was pretty good a few years ago, but look at their bowl history lately. OSU would never have gone through the SEC unbeaten or even w/o 2 losses in the last 5 years IMO. Oh and it looks like the B12 wasn't that good afterall.
