I do not believe Cole played.

Thelen got some time. Maybe a couple of minutes. He had a nice pass inside to Maile. Needs to work on being more aggressive and his rebounding and layups. Entirely too soft. I was surprised to see him not playing JV at all. But I think putting him in with another big guy is a great idea and hope to see it more. Jake will do fine.

 

Listerman stuck more to about eight players tonight. He went with his five [ives, Maile, Pauly, Wellbrock, Isler] and then Shover, Counts, Thelen rotated in, and Maschinot and Wilson got about a minute time. I think that was it. And it worked pretty well for him.

 

Thanks. I'd like to see Cole play more (and I'd like for him to take minutes away from some of those you listed :thumb:) but there is a reason why I'm not coaching CovCath. :lol: Good to finally get a win tonight.

There is one or two in particular, lol I'm sure you know which ones, that I wouldn't be too terribly disturbed if he replaced from time to time.

First congrats to CCH. I listened to the game. It seemed to me that My Camels turned the ball over way too much. Give credit to CCH defense. but listening to the game it sounded like several were unforced turnovers. From listening to the announcers the Camels took some good shots that just weren't falling. Campbell Co. defense may be the reason that CCH only scored 44. I guess the thing that I don't understand is in this and other threads about the Camels, is every team the Camels have played will improve and be better come tourny time, they had an off night, that's why the Camels beat them. This game was a good win for the Colonels, but maybe the Camels had somewhat of an off night. I don't hear much said about the Camels getting better by seasons end. I believe Coach Code will make adjustments and improve his team. He will have the Camels playing there best at seasons end as well. Congratulations to the Colonels on the win. GO CAMELS

I've got to be honest with you. I'm a CCH supporter. And I know our team this year is far from stellar. But they were the better team of the two last night. The Camels did not impress me. They had a nice shooter, but thats about it. It really didn't look like much of an off night, it just looked like they got beat by the team that should have won. Camels made good shot selections and they actually did fall. They were just flat out beat, and that's okay. Trust me CCH knows the feeling.

Covington Catholic ran a gimmick defense that threw the Camels way off. If you are the better team you don't have to resort to a diamond and one and etc. Coach Listerman knew he had to throw something at them and it indeed worked. Congrats to the Colonels, but you can't base one performance on an overview of a team. Every team has off nights in every sport.

Lol granted it is a gimmick defense, but one that shouldn't work at the varsity level. Unless, of course, you really only have those two players. CovCath is better than Campbell, and if anything the gimmick defense proves it more.

If Camels were the better team, they would have had no problem with it, as all they had to do was figure out how to whip it around to the corners or pass it into the middle [which they did and couldn't be successful at]. I guess you havent seen the Camels besides this game, they lit it up against Brossart, Camels can and will play better, CCH played good d, and played hard, Camels are better than you think, and you'll will see later in the year!

What exactly is a "gimmick defense?" Would it be a defense designed to take advantage of another team's weakness by taking away their #1 option? Do you call pounding the ball into the post when you have a clear size advantage a "gimmick offense?" Do you call a full court trap designed to take advantage of a team's inability to handle the ball a "gimmick defense?"

Well after reading this thread it seems that the Colonel supporters are not IMPRESSED with the Camels. I would think that the first 6 teams that defeated the Colonels were not impressed with them either. I think that if I were the Colonels I would be happy with your first win of the season over a Camel team that did not play very well and lay alittle lower until your wins are at least equal to your losses. As far as the Camels, this was a disappointing loss to a winless team but the coaching staff will need to make the necessary adjustments.

Basketball is a game of match-ups.

 

Brossart was grossly undersized vs the Camels who contested everything, contributing to a 1-17 shooting night from beyond the arc, and allowed the Camels to take advantage of their height/size in putting points on the board.

 

CovCath, with Isler and Wellbrock clogging things up down low, a chaser on Patrick Nerl, and someone up top distracting Jolley, matched up with the Camels quite well.

 

The low score of the game speaks volumes about Campbell County's ability to function against the Box/1, Diamond/2 defense.

 

Credit the Colonels for cashing in on the gamble. Without risk there is no return. Campbell would have possibly won the run-gun game, but the Colonels and their "gimmicks" were the best team on Tuesday night.
