The Yankees were assessed a $26.9 million tax by the commissioner's office on Monday, up from $23.9 million last year and their biggest bill since paying nearly $34 million for 2005. The Detroit Tigers, who also failed to qualify for the postseason, are the only other team that must pay tax and owe $1.3 million to the commissioner's office. Checks are due by Jan. 31.

December 23, 200817 yr No different than his idiot dad when he took over... Keep telling yourself that.
December 23, 200817 yr The Yanks are like the stock market, if you are patient it is only a matter of time before you will reap the rewards of being patient.
December 23, 200817 yr And Red Sox fan can keep telling yourself the Yanks will be down forever... Not down, they won 89 games last season. This is a different Red Sox franchise than the one of the last century. The Red Sox are a much better run franchise and I'll take John Henry and Theo Epstein over Hank Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman. I do like Cashman but as long as Hank is calling the shots I feel good about our chances.
