Montgomery County won third place in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Classic by beating Marshall County 72-69. A very good road trip to this tournament with wins over Piney Woods, MS, University Heights and Marshall County and only a 2 point loss to the eventual champion Christian County. :dancingpa

Great job guys. They did all of this without Nic Hendrix, who was injured in the first minutes of the first game. Great tournament for Brandon Rash who averaged over 20 points a game.

What happened to Hendrix? What is the extent of the injury how much did he play? Those wins are super impressive with him sidelined!

Something with his hip, possibly a hip pointer. Don't really know the extent but don't expect it to be too serious. It happened in the first 2 minutes in the first game. You are correct, the team really had to come together with him out.

Marshall Co is the top rated team in the first region in the KY Yearbook. This is a good win for Montgomery Co.

Marshall is also less than full strength ... guard Josh Madding, perhaps their second-best player, is out until mid-January with a broken arm suffered during football season.

 

Also, a lot of people are projecting Paducah Tilghman as the favorite right now, and Calloway County is in the mix, too. Marshall will be in the hunt if Madding is able to return and contribute.

 

I know Montgomery is also missing a starter.

 

Actually, the final score should have been 73-69 ... Montgomery's official scorer missed a free throw in the fourth quarter. Every other scorekeeper in the house had Montgomery with an extra point.

At the moment, with Madding on the sidelines, I would put them at #3 in the region ...

Marshall Co was also without their coach who was ejected from a game earlier in the tournament and was serving out his suspension.

 

All else aside, it was a very good win for what a lot of people are calling a "middle of the pack" 10th region squad. Best be careful overlooking the Tribe...
