December 18, 200817 yr Isn't Toyota in Georgetown doing something similar? Like a 3 or 4 week "Holiday" closing? The original planned shutdown was 12/24-1/4. That has been expanded because of the slow down, and is now 12/18-1/11 plus 1/16-1/19. Thats for TMMK (Georgetown). The other plants are similar but each is a day or two different (some working more days and some working fewer).

December 18, 200817 yr So yes, there is a normal shutdown, but they added 11 days due to the slowdown. I work for a supplier in the auto industry and we are staggering when associates come back. We are down today and bring a few back on the 5th of Jan. a few more on Jan. 19 and the majority back on Jan. 26. We are also now on 4 day weeks until the end of March. We also have had a lay-off.Morale is low for sure.
December 18, 200817 yr Its a myth that domestics do not make quality products. I think Hoot brought it up in another thread that part of the problem is not the quality of American companies' products, but the perception that their products (specifically cars) are lower quality.
December 18, 200817 yr Here's an idea. Why doesn't the UAW buy out Cerebus and put it in their pension plan. I bet it would suddenly become profitable.
December 19, 200817 yr Here's an idea. Why doesn't the UAW buy out Cerebus and put it in their pension plan. I bet it would suddenly become profitable.Explain.
December 19, 200817 yr Explain. When your employees own the company, they have more incentive for the company to do well. They are also less demanding of the company since their pension plans would depend on the profitability of the company.
