I don't visit this forum very often but this thread is awesome.

 

Those really are great looking animals. I will admit my ignorance about them, but if they are abundant enough I think they could be a very good source of protein for moutain families.

 

I do recall hearing a few years back that they were causing some damage on the golf course over at John's Creek (Pike) simply due to their weight, by walking on greens.

I have put in for the draw every year since the first one and unfortunately have not been drawed. I also enter Ferg every year too because he loves to hunt when he is not on the court which is very rare!!!!!!!!!! Maybe one of us will get lucky this year!!!!!!!!!!

 

I also enter myself and my son for the elk draw. We have never been drawn, but I know of a family who have had all three male members drawn. Makes you wonder.

Recently talked to someone from the KDFW and he said they expect big things from Ky Elk Populations in the future. He claimed that the Ky could get much bigger then some of the Elk out west due to the ground not being as frozen and the animals having a more abundant food source year round. Looks like Ky has the potential to be a nice slice of Elk Hunting heaven given more time and management but the KDFW.

Congrats to the young man on his Elk kill :thumb:. I am sure that will be plenty of meat for him and his family for a long time to come. I have never tasted that paticular form of venison (elk) but have heard it is delicious, if it is anything comparable to deer it is certainly some great table fare.

Elk are an awesome looking animal, I have never personally seen one, just on the outdoor/hunting programs on t.v.. We may take a day or two and drive into that region sometime just to see them.

Elk is far better than whitetail, IMO.

Woman Says She Is Lucky To Be Alive After Car Collided With Elk

 

A woman says she is lucky to be alive after she hit an elk and avoided serious injury when the animal crashed right through her windshield.

 

An elk ended up inside Melissa Jones' Chevy Metro.

 

Jones was driving to bible study in Stoney Fork just before seven Thursday night when she says she saw it standing right in the middle of highway 221.

 

“Didn't see him until it was too late,” Jones said.

 

When she hit the elk she says it flew up in the air, and then came back down and crashed through her windshield.

 

“I just pushed him off me and got out of the car. I don't even know how I did that, I don't even know how I got the car pulled off the side of the road, I don't even remember,” Jones said.
