I don't know that Trinity and St. Xavier would benefit from "independent" status ... part of the allure of those programs is their dominance when it comes to winning state championships. Take that out of the equation, and I'm not sure they attract as much talent.

Not that it could ever happen, but I think it would be fun to see Trinity and St. Xavier compete in the Tennessee private-school division. They could have some hellacious battles with Montgomery Bell Academy, Brentwood Academy, McCallie, Baylor, Memphis University School and Christian Brothers.

Maybe, but their supperior desirse and effort from the third grade on would probably be enough to overcome any foes.

California has a playoff system ... I watch some of their playoff games on Fox College Sports.

 

I don't know that the entire state plays into one set of finals, however ... it may be divided into northern and southern sections.

 

I'm pretty sure California doesn't crown a true state champion. I think NoCal and SoCal champs is as good as it gets.

We are not going anywhere. If it ever does happen both schools would probably invest in some dorms. And we all know what that means. St.Xavier and Trinity both play bye the rules. If we get kicked, It scares me to think how huge both schools would get. No rules would apply. What would the gripe be then?

 

Could you imagine FULL SCHOLLIES, and guaranteed D-1 love? It would be amazing....but it's a double edged sword...as great as it would be for both football and basketball, it would be catastrophic for most of our other athletics....I'd like to keep it the same way for now!!!

T & X would not have to be kicked out of the KHSAA to make this happen. They could be put in a separate classification from the publics and the smaller privates. That way they can schedule whoever they want, including KY public schools. I know several public schools in Jefferson Co. that would still want to be on the schedule for both. Also, they would then be able to schedule a T v. X as a playoff game and add another opponent. This would also solve the problems of other sports at T & X. They could continue to participate in the KHSAA.

 

As far as cost goes, the increase in ticket revenue might offset any increase in travel expenses. Especially if they continue to play a couple of local teams as part of the schedule.

So, then we go back to the "We'll play you as long as it doesn't hurt us" mindset? What happens to X & T in regards to the State Championship?

Under the scenario I mentioned, T and X would play in the postseason for their state championship.

 

For the record, I am not endorsing this idea. I'd like to beat T or X for a state championship one day. I'm just saying T & X would not have to be removed from the KHSAA totally in order to play an independent schedule in football. There are alot of options out there. The approach I mentioned solves some of the problems, ie. impact on other sports and ability to schedule football games against other teams who are members of their state associations.

You are greatly mistaken. They line up to play T & X for the paycheck. two public school teams will bring about 1500 -- 2500 in attendance. Make one of them T or X and that doubles.

Some schools line up to play T & X because they are the best in 6A. If you have to beat them in the post season to win a state championship, why duck them in the regular season?
