Is the Bible Relevant in Everyday Life?

Featured Replies

Are you advocating that you don't buy a house unless you have cash.

No but I do advocate if you take out a loan you should be able to pay it back.

I asked my 10 year old class at Sunday School once...."What kind of world would we have if every single human being followed the teachings of Jesus/Bible?" This question was meant for every human.

So AL I'm curious...what were their answers? A little child shall lead them comes to mind.

At first they all just stared at me and I had to go into some examples...

No one steals,cheats,hurts,etc.

Everyone loves,prays,helps others,

They understood what kind of world God intended for mankind to live in, Paradise.

Thats all I can remeber from the lesson these kids are now around 20 or so, but I still use the question with anyone from time to time. Feel free.

I'm still not buying that the Bible can help with finances but I'm open to strong examples. I've got debt and I need estate planning. Where are you pointing me to in the Bible?

Ever heard of Dave Ramsey? He does just that. http://www.daveramsey.com/

I've listened to Dave Ramsey's show as I used to spend a lot of time driving. If it weren't for him reading a passage from the Bible at the very end of the show, you couldn't say it was Bible-based advice.

Its very practical and solid advice but its not Bible-based at a granular level.

Maybe its the principles that is stated in the bible that may help with daily problems in 2008.

Agreed. Principles.

Yes, yes and yes. No need to explain.

People who don't believe the Bible is relevant to today's times are those who don't wish to follow the life lessons taught in the Bible and wish to create their own moral guidelines. They are now and have always been relevant. If you follow Jesus' 2 commandments alone, you will be fine in all you do.

1. Love God above all else

2. Love thy neighbor as thyself

Jesus makes it perfectly clear that following him is not about being comfortable on earth. I think His message is relevant in that the whole meaning of Jesus' words were in how to get along with one another. However, there is no promise of prosperity or health or comfort. As a matter of fact, I think there is promise of just the opposite.

Well is it?

Please explain if you believe it is or is not and tell why!

Can the Bible really help people get out of debt?

Can the Bible really help people get through family matters?

Can the Bible just in essence help others?

Check out DaveRamsey.com. His total money makeover is based on things taught in the Bible.

Absolutely, lot of good counseling comments about how to deal with things.

The answer to your last one also addresses your first two. Christians should be helping people out as Christ helped us all out.

Actually, it is.

It is just that society has taken those tidbits that have been taught out of the Bible for thousands of years and ingrained them into society so much, they don't realize it comes out of the Bible.

His Financial Peace University that is run through churches relies heavily on Scripture.
