December 11, 200817 yr So many experts on here, simply amazing that Barnhardt hired Gillispie when the best coaches for UK were right here on BGP! I say, let the man coach his way and in the end, his overall results will tell the tale. Perhaps the best comment on this thread.
December 11, 200817 yr They were 7-9 last year heading into conference play and there was a March. All kidding aside, last year was not a typical year. 9 out of 10 years that type of start to a season will leave a team home come March. The SEC is so bad right now the 7th or 8th place team from the Big East would probably win it. UK will make the tournament this year, but I can guarantee you they value every win, whether it be now or in conference play, the same. Every win is a stepping stone towards the tournament. With that being the case, I'd argue that wins right now are more important than wins come March, because without wins now, the Dance is not a definite.
December 11, 200817 yr Without the wins in November and such, there isn't going to be an NCAA tournament in March. Are you really trying to say that me, Wireman, and the rest pf the UK faithful don't care about UK losing ballgames????
December 11, 200817 yr I have read through this entire thread and it appears that there's always a Smart Aleck comment as well and it falls right after Wireman and Corndog's last post. Nothing wrong with having a little fun.
December 11, 200817 yr Are you really trying to say that me, Wireman, and the rest pf the UK faithful don't care about UK losing ballgames???? Not at all. I'm saying the games now are just as important as any other games this team plays. Without the wins now, the tournament doesn't happen.
December 11, 200817 yr  Nothing wrong with having a little fun. I don't know some of the obsession in this thread has given me a headache, but oh well, if that's what makes you happy.

So you would rather win in November then win in the tournament?? What is your deal?? Like MSU said earlier, why are you following me and Wireman around and trying to be a smart-aleck?? It makes no sense.
December 11, 200817 yr So you would rather win in November then win in the tournament?? What is your deal?? Like MSU said earlier, why are you following me and Wireman around and trying to be a smart-aleck?? It makes no sense. That's not what I said at all. If you don't win now, there is no tournament. It's as simple as that. Wins right now are every bit as important as those that you get later in the year, because if you don't win these games, you can forget about March. So let me get this straight, I'm a smart-aleck, because I have a different opinion than you guys? Awesome.

No, that's not the reason you're following us around. I don"t know why you're doing it. It's EASY to have a civil discussion, but you don't do that.
December 11, 200817 yr Knock off the silly jabs, last warning. Stick to discussing UK taking off from practice.
December 11, 200817 yr A win over a team like MVSU isn't as good as a win over a Florida, never did I say that. But a loss to a team like MVSU is 100x worse than a loss to Florida. Bad losses are harder to wash away than good wins are. If this team wants to be playing in March, they have to win these games. After lossing to a team like VMI, they can't afford any more stumbles against terrible teams. That makes everyone of these games they're playing right now extremely important to their playing in the tournament. Obviously winning a game in the tournament is a bigger deal than winning a single game in the regular season, but if they don't win those regular season games, especially the ones in November & December against the weak competition, they won't even have that opportunity.

Last year we lost to San Diego, Houston, UAB, and Gardner Webb...We still made the tournament.
December 11, 200817 yr Last year we lost to San Diego, Houston, UAB, and Gardner Webb...We still made the tournament. I know that. Do you not agree that last year was not like most years, in the sense that the SEC was downright awful? If the SEC was even an average conference last year UK would have lost at least 1-2 more games, and would have been playing in the NIT.

If the SEC was even an average conference last year UK would have lost at least 1-2 more games, and would have been playing in the NIT. The SEC was very bad last year, there's no denying that fact. However, UT was very good, they beat Memphis. UK beat UT last year, and lost by 3 without Patterson in the second meeting. We beat an undefeated Vandy team, a decent Florida team (ok maybe they were bad), and a talented Arkansas team.
December 12, 200817 yr Kentucky used to value every win, whether it was in November, or during the summer touring Europe, in January, AND in March. When did this change? Whoever the coach was before this guy must have kind of sucked all of that out for UK fans.
