December 10, 200817 yr His contract makes me think about an article I read about the Reds' Cordero. They said he would probably crack a big smile after he sees that his deal from '08 would be larger than most closers see in '09.
December 10, 200817 yr How does Cordero's contract with the Reds compare to K-Rod's with the Mets? Seems like the Mets got a relatively cheap deal. That's what I was thinking. I was expecting a bigger deal for the 2nd best closer in baseball.

You think paying Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Pedro, K-Rod etc is cheap? I think that is as much buying a team as anybody. When the Mets, Sox, Cards, Houston etc do it then it's a great move. When the Yankees do it everybody throws a fit and they are buying a championship. I just think it's a double standard. I'm not saying it wasn't a good deal. I am saying people would whine around if it were the other NY team.

I don't have a problem with the Yankees. I think they're an illustration of one of the biggest problems in baseball, but I don't blame them for doing what they do. Until baseball implements a salary cap, the Yanks are free (for lack of a better word) to do what they want to do financially. No, I do not think that the Mets' payroll is cheap. Actually, the Mets' have the highest payroll in the National League. Or at least they did in 2008. And it was still $60 million LESS than the Yankees.
