No way could East get anywhere near Elliott. They just don't have the talent. After watching Elliott romp on Madisonville with the #1 player in the state.

Nobody in the 16th can handle them.

 

As for West being EC's rival, you're right. But their 92-93 team was there best in years, but choked in the big game against Rowan Co. in the Reg. Tourn.

 

I personally think you could start the score out Elliott Co. 0 and any other 16th region team 10 and Elliott would still win by double figures.

You have to wonder with Trigg County beating Madisonville easily and Elliott County doing the same, how much Madisonville will need to improve to win the 2nd region.

 

I feel better about GRC's chances in the 10th region even though they got beat by 20 or so by Elliott then by 41 by Corbin.

If Madisonville wins that region, it is either a very weak region, or Madisonville got a lot better. Not too many one player teams make it to Lexington.

Wow, EC will lead the state in scoring that is for sure. With the Faulkners likely averaging 18+ a game and Ferg probably in the upper 20's I would say they avg 83 a game.

Wow...EC keeps putting big numbers on the board and playing well. I'm very interested in seeing hoiw they do in the Myrtle Beach tournament. Too bad EC doesn't play some of the top teams in state too. I'd love to see how they do against Scott Co, Holmes, J'town, and some other tougher 7th/11th region teams. EC doens't play many teams who will have the athleticism that those teams have.

They can't just drop every 16th region team off their schedule and then be left to play the best teams in the state next year with what they have coming back. They have to think about the future a little bit too. Elliott County has without a doubt updated their schedule this year, and will be challenged plenty.

They play 8th region favorite Anderson County in the Montgomery County Shootout, and Mason County makes a trip to Sandy Hook in Feburary. They also have district foe East Carter twice, who will prove to be a top 25 team in the state before the year is out. Also, they will compete for a trip to the Class "A" State Tournament where they could be matched up with the likes of Shelby Valley, Hazard, Bardstown, etc.

 

Most people think Coach Mays will probably be retiring after this year, leaving the program to long-time assitant Greg Adkins. How would it be fair to Coach Adkins and the group returning next year to leave them with a schedule full of top 10 teams to play? It doesn't have anything to do with the fear of losing or wanting to have a better record than anyone eles. This group of seniors have played alot of basketball and know what it takes to win. They will be ready come tournament time.

I don't think Eta nor the rest of the state thinks Elliott County is fearful of losing. Some are just searching for a justification to why Elliott County is ranked in the top 5. The coaches voted it. I think that speaks more volume than anything.

 

Many see that Elliott does play a schedule that's not on par with the other top 5 teams. And I do agree, its not EC's fault the 16th is not a strong region. Though some are looking for that signature win that says EC is legit. Kinda like WKU beating UL today.

 

I have stated it before and I am probably wrong for saying so, EC doesn't own a single top 30 win from last year and they don't face a single a single threat of a top 40 team until they reach the Sweet 16 from district to regionals on.

 

It really doesn't matter what a team is ranked, you gotta play each game with the same approach. Every fan has an opinion and most are biased. The one opinion that counts most is how the coaches view you and they say Elliott is top 5.

I guess Elliott should start playing college teams to prove that they're legit :sleep:

 

While I say that jokingly, I do think its funny that everyone loves to bash small schools that have some success. I'm not sure what else Elliott County has to do? I know one thing for sure, all those big schools that find Elliott warming up on the other end had better be ready to bring it because this team can flat out play the game.

My question Is , who in the 16th region with the exception of East Carter would want to play Elliott Co this year and get beat to death. If I were coaching one of those teams I would gladly excuse them from my schedule this year and pick them up next year. I'm just saying ,Elliott needs to be playing better teams this year. :ylsuper:

Although I don't want to totally disregard teams development by playing a tough schedule....

 

Playing a tough, tougher, or toughest schedule could be one of the most over-rated hypes in H.S. basketball. What matters is each individual game. The hard fought win or loss in December or early January has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the game they play in the 1st round of the district, the regional semi-final or 1st round of state tournament. What matters is how a team plays from 7:30 to 8:45 on a given Tuesday or Friday night and that game only...does anyone think that playing a "tough" schedule makes a physical or even psychological difference to the Faulkner(s), Ferguson, Knipp with 1:30 left to play against some other team and they are running to their spots on floor and ready to shoot, pass, cut, or or crash the glass????? Nope....the team they are playing on that night has a lot to do with it...the flow of the individual game has a lot to do with it....upsets happen and can happen at any time, but it will certainly not be because of the schedule they played...it'll be because of the events that happen within the game itself. I wonder how many coaches get their teams in the huddle and say "Guys, remember that tough loss or win we had the in the tournament in December, because of that game, you will make your next 3 pointer and will not turn it over against the weaker opponent.....":rolleyes:

 

There is a whole lot that actually goes into winning a game....one thing I don't believe does, are past performances against good or bad teams, tough or tougher schedules.

 

Each game is different and all that matters in late Feb. and early March is surviving, advancing, and continuing your season.

Elliott played well yesterday on both ends of the floor. Ferg had 27 leading the way for the Lions.

 

T. Knipp had 18 and played a very good game.

 

The Twins played well combining for 28 points.

Nobody is saying Elliot needs to play a tougher schedule. I know my personal view was just that I'd like to see how other top teams played against them, since they ARE so good.

 

I'd love to see a Holmes-EC match up. Not to prove a point that one team is better than the other, but I just think the contrasting styles would give eachother fits and make for a great game.

 

That's all I meant with my initial post. Not bashing the little school at all. I wish they would have knocked off MC last year. We'd be seeing Holmes raising a state title banner on Wed... :sssh:
