Although I have not seen Monroe play they are obviously a good team or they would not be playing in December. However, I think that Fort Campbell has too many weapons on both sides of the ball and are the best team in 2A. If Fort Campbell executes their game plan the way they are capable of doing without committing costly penalties and turnovers I believe they will win by 10 points.

I can go ahead and tell the Ft. Campbell fans now that the field Friday night will not be good, after today’s weather and the fact that there is very little grass left in the middle of the field it will likely be a muddy mess, but it will be a muddy mess for both teams...

I agree with SEMPERFIFALCON, FC needs to wear long spikes on thier cleats because the shape of the field is really bad. Not that I am complaining because that means we are playing more than usual. Three straight games with no break and some really foul weather to boot does not make for idea playing conditions. Our first game against Fort Knox it seems like the rain gods opened up and poured thier eyes out on us. I was sure it was remnants of a tropical storm or something. The field was pretty much destroyed after that game. It hasn't had time to heal because Monroe refuses to lie down! Just one more and the field can heal for the season!!!

There are 17 people that voted for Monroe County......and yet again, I'm curious to know why you think that Monroe County will win, afterall, the starting post in this thread asked for reasons why you voted that way. It's not an attack, I'm just curious. It gives me a little insight to the team when I'm listening from the confines of my room here in AFG.

 

Me? I think that Fort Campbell will win. I think that Fort Campbell is too fast and has too many weapons on either side of the ball.

Bardstown played Ft. Campbell in the region last year and so I have seen many of this year's Ft. Campbell returners. I also saw Monroe play two weeks ago.

 

What always struck me as amazing about Monroe was that they had no one player whom you could point to and say, "wow, he's electric," but they also did not have one player who you pointed to and said "we need to pick on that guy." All of them were just very solid players.

 

The field at Monroe sucked when Bardstown was there, too, and Bardstown was slipping all over. The field will affect both teams - it is neither an advantage or disadvantage.

 

Monroe doesn't have penalties because Monroe is well-coached. They don't jump offsides. They don't have false starts. Their offense is not complex enough for complicated procedure calls.

 

Other examples of really good coaching: 1) pre-game warmup. I was really impressed by their work ethic in pre-game. These players are really IN to the game, there was no screwing around, no flatness. 2) Their coach has their attention. Late in the Bardstown game, we had a guy make a really bad late-hit out of bounds penalty on the Monroe sidelines. The Monroe sideline had the opportunity for a big retaliation and while they did start to crowd around, their coaches got in there double-quick and grabbed control. Every single player was taken to the side in a group by the head coach and immediately talked about the effect of ejections, etc. 80% of the teams in Kentucky, someone would have taken a parting shot, but not Monroe. 3) red zone. I thought Monroe's best offensive play-calling was from the 15 yard-line and in.

 

My understanding from the Ft. Campbell threads this year is that the FC Falcons have struggled with penalties and with slow starting first halves. If that precedent repeats itself, I think that Roe is on its way to the state title game.

 

That all said, Ft. Campbell's linebackers are absolutely and positively outstanding. If Roe does not get them blocked, I think they will struggle scoring, because good at throwing it as he is, I don't think the passing game is going to be there for Roe on Friday.

 

Another factor for Roe is the kicking game. You can't give Ft. Campbell the field position you gave to Bardstown and get away with it.

 

I'm going to call a Monroe upset, say, 28-24.

 

Incidentally, all the Green/Monroe discussions aside, the fans in Tompkinsville will understand who they are playing against and what the Ft. Campbell team represents, and there is not going to be any lack of patriotism or love for God and country in Tompkinsville, and I think the Ft. Campbell fans will be very well-received.

I respect your opinion of the game (although I disagree), but I most like your sentiment. A good game can be played by both and a respect can be had by all. I am truly proud of what the Ft. Campbell kids represent and personally know how tough it is on them on a daily basis to stay focused, because life tends to hand these kids challenges in a different arena. They do stay focused and they have overcome. It's nice to see that others appreciate this fact too. Monroe's team also has had an amazing season this year and they definitely have earned their own respect from FC. I wish for a great game of Falcons! "Go FC Falcons!";)

While I respect your opinion and analysis, I have to say that the one player that did not play in last year’s Regional Championship game was Antonio Andrews. He is truly a difference maker. I think that this year’s Fort Campbell team is much different than last year’s team, a majority of the offensive production this year is from players who didn’t play any meaningful snaps last year. The penalty issue was primarily in the first game against Owensboro Catholic coming off the bye week. Since then, they seem to have corrected most of the mental mistakes, especially in the critical situations. If it seems that I am defending Fort Campbell…well I am, but isn’t that what fans do?

I would like to say one thing......regarding the part that i've bolded. I've listened to every game, and I don't recall any slow starting first halves.

 

I also think that the penalties for FC happened early in the season, and just after the break in the first game with OC, but have since been corrected, and don't happen that much.

 

It'll certainly be a good game, wish I was there! :madman:
