I seem to remember there was a crowd here who did the same about OJ Mayo. He was overrated, was an average college player at best, yada,yada. We talk about basketball IQ in this forum, yet sometimes don't display much.

My opinion is that Richie Phares would be the leader as he is a senior and played a significant role in a state championship two years ago. He has sort of been there and done that.

I wasn't trying to cut him down at all with my post. I just meant by leading them, it would be Guyn and Phares who would be most likely the top two scorers while also being the vocal leaders on the team. Next year when Dakotah is a senior, I think that will change.

The 7th Region is definitely represented well with 5 teams in the top 25.

I thought #16 was a misprint. I would have another Lexington school Tates Creek in that slot over Bryan Station. Madisonville at #17 only because of Hood. I would not have them in my Top 25, but would replace with either Hopkins County Central and the two big guys or Seneca in the 7th.

 

Teams on the edge of the Top 25: Boone County, Iroquois, Madison Central, Anderson County, Taylor County, and South Laurel.

 

Anderson will get their chance to make their case in the King of the Bluegrass.

 

One team I think may merit a look before all is said and done: North Oldham. We'll have to see, but the Mustangs have the ingredients to be pretty darn good this year.

 

Another 8th Region team (besides Anderson County and North Oldham) that will be heard from is Shelby County. Gone are the guts of last year's Sweet 16 team, but a lot of talent returns.

 

One of those three is probably the 8th Region's best chance of cracking the top 25...

Depends on what you call leading. Euton may, in fact, lead the Cards in scoring, and maybe some intangibles. As far as the game-in-game-out pace of the game which I believe is important...it will be Guynn and Jackson. This is not to take anything away from Phares either, but the guards will determine the pace (oh and maybe the coach).

#2 Holmes toss-up (unsure) against Tates Creek without top player Rico Johnson.

#3 Jeffersontown by nearly 30 over Iroquois.

 

#4 Elliott County easily over #6 GRC.

 

#5 Manual easily over #7 Lexington Catholic.

I wouldn't put to much stock in to one preseason game though. The majority of those teams listed will play their final preseason game this week end. That should give us a little better idea of what to expect.

Then why have a pre-season poll at all? Why have pre-season best players? Why not wait and offer schollys to players who are in the senior year? Facts are, all of the recognition, scholarships, etc. more and more are based on hype, statistics and projections IMO.

I wonder what coaches gave Fairdale and Christian Co their ONE first place votes?

 

Kind of surprised to see Mason Co all the way up at #8.

 

Top 5 looks about right but I'd have GRC at #4 over EC.

 

Agreed somewhat......But, I don't see many teams underneath Mason Co. that could take the #8 spot.

 

Also, first place votes given to Fairdale and Christian Co. is just funny.

28% of the teams are Louisville teams.
