This information is good the only thing I don't agree with is is height. Collinsworth doesn't appear to be near 6 foot tall. I could be wrong though.

Fugate is a D-1 player and should be Mr.Football for sure next year. Fugate will walk all over Belfry this Friday night. If Fugate cant run around Belfry he will run through team.

 

How did that work for Fugate last year again? Belfry is unlike any defense he has seen all year, if Breathitt can't stablish a passing game it will be a tough night for Fugate.

To be honest, I'm far more concerned with Belfry's offense. If we can't hold up better at the point of attack than we did last year, its not going to matter how good Fugate does or doesn't play.

Anyone who watches football is well aware of that. For whatever reason, Breathitt County just hasn't had the size up front. They've never really had huge teams anyway, but lately it seems they've gotten smaller and that becomes too much to overcome when they play a talented and fundamentally sound team that has big offensive lines.

It seemed like only a few years ago the Bobcats were dressing 60+ players..but last year they only appeared to have a handful over 30-35. I know numbers are down everywhere, but this really surrised me considering the success Breathitt's program ahs sustained for so long.

 

I also felt like it really hindered the Bobcats against Belfry because the lack of depth up front was apparent, and Holcomb seemed very reluctant to sub out. As a result, Belfry just grided them down by late in the game (I think it was fairly evident that the final score didn't really reflect how the game would turn out if they played ten times for the record).

I've noticed as well. Less numbers and smaller players...so, not only is your line small, allowing teams to run on you, but the depth is bad also, so you have a lot of two-way players. They wear down...

 

Channing Fugate is a perfect example. He never leaves the field and he plays close to the line on defense. When Jonathan Chapman was playing RB 10-12 years ago, he rarely stepped on the field unless he was playing offense. I really wish BC could keep Fugate off the field and play him only at RB. It would be different if they had more weapons and didn't have to ride him like they do.

 

But, even when Breathitt has played guys two ways, they've had some depth to rest them, but that hasn't been the case lately.

 

As for last years game, I would agree. I think the last two minutes of the first half turned that game into a massacre. Belfry clearly had a better team, but I think those two late TD's broke our backs and it just snowballed after that. Its possible that game could have been competitive if Breathitt could have went into the half down 14-13.

 

If they played 10 times? Belfry may have won by 34 in a different game, but I doubt they'd have rolled up 62 points. Ouch! The only way Breathitt could have beat them would have been for Belfry to turn the ball over multiple times.

I do agree with how you size up this week's game. I don't think either team is as good as last year, and IMO, that favors Breathitt. But, still, they're the underdog and its going to take a heck of a game by them to win this Friday.

 

As for next year, we'll see. Hopefully the passing game can get better with Haddix returning for his senior year. Obviously, the running game will be fine. Also, they'll get one of their linemen back...a promising sophomore who was slated to start before tearing an ACL before the season. I expect him to be one of their better linemen. I'm just hoping the injury and the year off doesn't hurt too much, because next year looks to be one of the Bobcats better chances at returning to the carpet.

 

I'm sure Belfry will come up with something though...we still have a lot of ground to make up.

Your wrong, he's 6'1" - 185lbs and ran a 4.65 40 at the combine. I think he will be in the 4.4- 4.5 range this coming summer after another year of track.

I think Fugate will definitely be a finalist for the award, but I don't know if he will win.

 

Did Haddix (former Breathitt QB) win Mr. Football in 2002? I know he had a tremendous season that year.
