Fantasy Question RB

Featured Replies

I basically have to win my last three games to make the playoffs in my league...which two RB's would you play? After my recent trade, here's what I've got right now.

LaDainian Tomlinson (@ Pittsburgh)

Steve Slaton (@ Indianapolis)

Chris Johnson (@ Jacksonville)

LenDale White (@ Jacksonville)

Also, at TE...Chris Cooley (vs. Dallas) or Bo Scaife (@ Jacksonville)?

And finally, at QB...Ben Roethlisberger (vs. San Diego) or Chad Pennington (vs. Oakland)? I also have Kyle Orton right now, but I don't think I'll play him until I see what he can do.

Well, what the heck...one more...would you play Jerricho Cotchery (@ New England) or Braylon Edwards (@ Buffalo)? Cotchery has been banged up and has done next to nothing the last few weeks, and Edwards has struggled all year. Edwards obviously has the higher upside, but with Quinn's dink and dunk style, I don't like his odds. Cotchery scares me because he isn't 100%, but the Pats secondary is a huge weakness and the game will likely be competitive for 4 quarters, meaning he should get his chances. What do you think?

It's always tough to tell which of those 2 Titan RBs is going to have the better game... What's the scoring system for your league? How many yards for a point?

Steve Slaton hasn't done anything lately. I'll go with LT and one of the 2 Titan RBs, depending on scoring. I'm more inclined to say Johnson, though.

Chris Cooley and Bo Scaife is fairly interesting. Both have the potential to do a lot, or nothing depending on the kind of game their respective coaches call. Clinton Portis' health factors a lot into this one, IMO. If he can't go, I think Cooley's stock goes up a lot out of necessity. I also think Cooley has more potential to take over a game. He gets my vote in this battle.

The Chargers defense has been pretty bad this year, but Ben has been bad the past couple of weeks. He could get you big numbers, or he could have a game like he has the last few weeks. Pennington is not going to get big numbers, but I don't think he is going to give you as many mistakes either. I will probably be in the minority here, but I like Pennington.

Finally... Wide receiver... It's still not been proven how often Brady Quinn is going to look towards Braylon Edwards. After one game, it seems that Kellen Winslow is going to be his first look, but that could change from week to week. Braylon has a much higher chance of getting a touchdown, than Cotchery, though IMO. Favre seems to look towards Jones, Keller, Coles, and sometimes even Stuckey before giving Cotchery a look. I like Braylon's potential against the recently struggling Bills.

Obviously, LT is a bad choice. I would play Johnson vs. Jags.

Here is my opponent's lineup...

QB - Peyton Manning (vs. Houston)

WR - Anquan Boldin (@ Seattle)

WR - Derrick Mason (@ NY Giants)

RB - Maurice Jones-Drew (vs. Tennessee)

RB - Ricky Williams (vs. Oakland)

TE - Benjamin Watson (vs. NY Jets)

K - Nick Folk (@ Washington)

D/ST - Buffalo (vs. Cleveland)

Considering some of their matchups, I have a bad feeling about this week. I don't feel good about my chances. Some of my guys are going to have to perform better than expected, or I'm going to have to have a couple of them blow up for huge games while the rest pitch in with some solid production.

If I can pull this one out, my remaining two matchups are far more favorable as far as who my guys are playing against. I think I have a real shot if I can get lucky this week.

Johnson never leaves my lineup. I'll probably go with LT...even though its a bad matchup, its still possible he could get in the end zone. I don't feel good about Slaton...Kubiak said he was worn down, so he scares me. I can't afford to put a guy in who won't be a big part of the offense. But, I am considering playing both Titan RB's because White is a TD machine and the Jags haven't been that great against the run. Considering LT's matchup, that may be the "safe" play...

...but, considering my matchup, I'm not sure I can afford to go "safe". Especially with the sub-par production I get from some of my other guys. As of now, I'm leaning toward playing all the guys on my roster who have the biggest upside and hoping a couple of them deliver big and the rest pitch in enough to round things out.

That means....

Big Ben, Moss, Edwards, Johnson, LT, Cooley, Bironas and the Titans D.

I'll just play them and keep my fingers crossed.

Hey, spindoc, guess what I'm going to do if I lose? I'm going to play all Titans for the rest of the season...my lineup will be...

QB - Kerry Collins

WR - Brandon Jones, Justin Gage

RB - Chris Johnson, LenDale White

TE - Bo Scaife

K - Rob Bironas

D/ST - Tennessee

At least that way, I can combine fantasy/real life and it will be easier to keep up with my scores.

Brother, that sounds like exactly what I'd do. I wish you luck. However, the way your guys are playing, I'm not sure that's not the best play anyway.:thumb:

Seriously, it may be. That shows how pathetic Edwards has been when you think a Titan WR would be a better play...

Pretty sure of LT.

Debating my QB now that I picked up Thigpen. Who would have thought Big Ben or Tyler Thigpen would have been a question in fantasy football?

Here's another example of the wonderful luck I've had in fantasy football this year...

First, I get to watch Matt Cassel blow throw after throw to Randy Moss...if Brady is the QB in New England, Moss probably would have had 150+ yards and 3 TD's. Instead, I get 26 yards and luckily a TD.

But, here's the real kicker...I'm playing my cousin, who hasn't checked or changed his lineup since Week Two. His TE just happens to be Ben Watson, who going into last night's game had 91 yards and 0 TD for the season. He gets 88 yards and a TD last night. If I could turn my fantasy team into a solid object, I would smash it with a sledgehammer, grind it into a fine powder, put it in a box and throw it in the river.

And, oh yeah, I decided not to start Jerricho Cotchery...

Yeah, Cotchery looked solid last night. I can't help but feel partly to blame.

Braylon can still outdo that performance though...

I was fairly set on playing Edwards myself. Nothing on here convinced me...

Its just frustrating when Moss has the opportunity to catch a couple TD's and rack up some nice yardage, but can't because Cassel can't throw a good deep ball or throw it up to give him a chance to make a play in man coverage.

Then, Ben Watson rolls up 88 yards and a TD after doing nothing all season long...on the week I play him.

I can't bench Chris Johnson. So, if Slaton plays, LT is going to the bench. I'm still debating on the trio of LT, Slaton and White. LT has the worst matchup possible, but he's still LT. He's still capable of getting in the end zone multiple times on any week against any team, which all but erases a bad week yardage-wise.

Its just been a frustrating year. This right here sums it up...if you rank the points scored each week, check out these stats.

1. For six consecutive weeks, I scored in the top 5 in the league and went 3-3 during that span. Two of those wins I scored the most and had no possibility of losing. Out of five weeks when I scored in the top 3, I lost twice.

2. My opponents have scored in the top 5 every week except two. My opponent has been the team that scored the most points once, the second most three times, and the third most 3 times. To break that down, I had no chance one week. And on six other weeks, I had to score the most or second most points to win.

3. Through ten weeks, I have scored 813 points which is second most in the league. My record is 3-7. The #1 guy has scored 949 points. He is 8-2. The #3 guy has scored 800 points. He is 6-4 and third record-wise. The #4 guy has scored 778. He is 7-3 and second record-wise.

4. And, finally, as I said, I've scored 813, which is good for a 81 points per week. My opponents have scored 891 which is good for 89 points per week...and would be second highest in the league. So, basically, this fantasy season for me has been the equivalent of playing the top team in your league every single week.

It's ridiculous. I've never seen anything like it. I want so badly to make the playoffs because I know I'd have a chance. Looks like its not meant to be. No other way to explain the luck I've had.

I'd probably go with either Slaton/Tomlinson and Chis Johnson.

Hard decision between Slaton and Johnson, but I think I would lean towards Johnson since his team is built on the running game. So I think I'd play CJ/LT.
