Since Ashland is idle this week, I’m interested in finding out what those close to these two programs think about the upcoming game.

 

Dixie Heights, I see, is currently 3 – 6 coming off a loss to Ryle last week. Campbell, standing at 5 – 4, is experiencing a 2 game skid coming into the season finale for both teams.

 

In 1998, these two did not play, but since then, Dixie has rattled off 9 straight victories over Campbell.

 

Any ideas what to expect this Friday?

Dixie seems to be able to score some points, but they usually give up more than they score. Campbell is coming off of two losses, one of which knocked them out of the playoffs, and after the loss to NCC, one has to wonder how they will end the season. I think they show up and beat Dixie in a close one.

I'd look for a high scoring game, as Dixie (to Neerfan's point) seems to be able to score, but not stop anyone? I'm looking for the return of the Camel offense (and the Camel posters ) that was being touted a couple of weeks ago, and they should have enough "D" to secure the victory.

Dixie struggles against good defensive teams. (See Boone, Highlands, Beechwood) Coming off a tough loss to NCC, I see Campbell being too big and physical for the Colonels. Dixie will struggle to stop the Camel running game and Bishop should have a big night againt a smaller Dixie secondary.

This one is tough to predict. I think the teams are eveningly matched, but the only thing Dixie needs to do is come away healthy for the next week. With Campbell only playing for pride, I could see Dixie shifting into cruise control and letting some of their key guys watch most of this game. Campbell will probably win.

I agree. With Ashland off this week, they're able to come up and watch Dixie play. I think you see a very vanilla offense with a lot of backups playing.

Dixie is still going to try to stay sharp, the first half could be a good football game, but it may be time to check-out in the 2nd half. Both teams will probably use subs in the 2nd half.

If the Camels show up like they did against NewCath they will win by 14, they have a very good defense. The key for the Camels is who will play QB Eshman kid is a very good athlete but the Kremer kid is more of a QB who has great touch and is very calm back there.

You’re right about the points yielded by Dixie this year. The Colonels offensive output (277) is nearly a mirror image of points allowed (279) through their nine games. Campbell, at least on paper, seems to have a much stingier defense. What’s the old saying: “Defense wins championships”? Campbell has allowed an average of 17 points per game in ’08, but the X factor is how valuable is the Camel’s pride in this matchup? Not knowing about this group of players, could they have already checked out on football or will a win against Dixie salvage some facet of this season? Win or loose, Dixie lives to fight another day but I would think the Colonels would want some momentum going into the playoffs.

I hope you're correct, but I just don't see it with this team. Take last year for example, Dixie rolled Campbell and then got embarressed by CovCath. Maybe if they get hammered by Campbell, they'll be ready for the first round of the playoffs?

Not only did Dixie beat Campbell last year then get “rolled” the following week, since 2000, the Colonels have followed the win against Campbell with a loss in 6 out of the last 8 years. Only in the 2004 – 05 seasons did Dixie put together consecutive wins after facing the Camels.

 

We can put this little bit of trivia in the “inconsequential facts” column. However, if the pattern holds true, and Dixie wins this Friday night…odds are they will loose in their opening round playoff game.

The coaches are taking the confidence way from the players. Instead of teaching when they do wrong they are going with new players this late in the season. Just yelling at the players doesn't get it done.
