Ever think that some people might honestly feel like Obama would make a better President? Maybe they have done their research, and still feel that way.

 

Maybe it's the McCain supporters who have been "hoodwinked".

I'm sure many on both sides have been hoodwinked. For instance, I feel that people who vote McCain solely out of actual fear for Obama have been tricked.

 

First of all, many of these people believe in God, but apparently don't trust his divine will to last an Obama Presidency. Second of all, he can't destroy the U.S. because we will all be watching very closely, and voting in 4 years. If he likes it or not, I consider the United States to be a center-right nation. Thirdly, this country has beat some insurmountable odds, larger so than a President with a funny-sounding middle & last name.

 

And I know they have been "hoodwinked" because I was one of them.

I assume the reasons that you are supporting Barr are not good enough reasons for others to vote Barr.

 

I hope my vote for Barr both helps the libertarians get ballot access, as well as teaches the "tax and spend" Democrats and "do nothing and spend" Republicans a lesson. Everyone who I have talked to, I said don't vote Obama, but consider 3rd party.

You're right. If the Republicans had nominated a solid candidate I would have voted for them, but as it is, I felt a protest vote was necessary.

I would just like for an Obama supporter to actually defend and articulate his positions and how they will stimulate the economy and be good for the country. I have never used the term 'hoodwinked' as some have. Voting for change is fine, ... but what exactly is the change supporters are voting for, ... besides not voting for Bush?

 

Here are a few examples:

 

- Raising capital gains taxes (How will that increase investment?)

- Reinstating the inheritance tax (Let's force more family owned farms and businesses to have to sell, what a marvelous idea! It is back to double taxation as the owner already was taxed on the income to build that farm/business.)

- Increasing taxes on businesses (That will help create more domestic jobs?)

- Increasing coal fired electric power generation taxes to the point that new plants would be 'taxed into bankruptcy and the cost of electricity would skyrocket', (How will that help the middle class and working poor and the increased cost to government when they set up more programs to pay the bills of persons who already have a hard time paying their power bill?)

- Increasing minimum wage by 45% within 24 months (How will this increase jobs and keep inflation down?)

- $900 billion in new government spending?

- Raising taxes on anyone in our current economic state?

 

If anyone can explain how these positions of Senator Obama's will help the economy, please speak up. Maybe as a conservative I am just not smart enough to understand.

I actually asked these questions at 9am on this thread. No takers. Again, just over 3 hours later (left out the abortion / Freedom of Choice Act line as it was not related to the economy) and still no takers.

 

I really would like someone to explain to me what I am missing? I consider myself a relatively intelligent individual. I graduated from college, work to support my family, and run a small business on the side. My understanding of economics must not be on a high enough level to understand how his proposals will help to increase economic growth. I haven't delved into any of the accusations, assumptions and rumors, ... just his proposals and statements.
