Did you get to see Boyle County play SW Pulaski last night.I was not impressed with SW at all.Heard this morning that Mercer turned the ball over 5 times last night to Rocks zero. 3 fumbles and 2 interceptions.That big of turnover margin usually ends up in defeat.

Boyle just seems to make teams look not so good.:sssh:

Mercer simply got out coached this game. They were probably 2 td's better than Rock if they would have played well. Defensively they played really well after the first quarter but then the offense was non-existent.

Just wonder why they did not run outside much more? Almost everytime they did it equaled a huge amount of yardage compared to the 1, 2 yd gains up the middle.

 

I didn't make it to the game. With regard to the offense, did Cornish play the QB spot the entire time or did Dunn take some snaps too?

 

I'm very surprised by this. No disrespect to Rockcastle, but IMO Mercer was a couple TDs better. Obviously, Rock executed their game plan and eliminated the threat of Mercer's running attack.

 

Championship ball teams cannot have 5 turnovers a game and expect to do anything in the playoffs. By this time in the season, those types of mistakes and mental errors should be minimal at best.

I don't think this game is that big of an upset. Rock is 7-2 right now with loses to Bell and Knox. They play Whitley this week which will be a huge test.

Just found out that the last interception was in the endzone on a 3rd and 6 on the goaline to a wide open receiver on an underthrown pass.

The Rocket "D" was the reason for the turnovers, all except the snap over the QB's head, but he would have been sacked on that play, but a sack would have been much better for Mercer Co.

The sophomore QB is Cornish. He has really tried to step up and has given the Titans some spark at times, but I firmly believe the fact that he didn't start taking the snaps consistently until about 3 weeks ago has hurt him. He is a very good athlete and will be a fine QB with more gametime experience. I think considering the circumstances he is doing a great job! Its unfortunate this group of seniors hasn't had the success to date we all anticipated.

Back on subject. Hat's off to the Rockets. They had a game plan and executed it well. These were two very similar teams. If they played 10 times it would probably end up 5-5.

In the first quarter, Mercer had the ball 4th and 9 at the 11. He goes for it instead of getting the points. When given a chance, the kicker has not missed a field goal all year. If memory serves correctly, this is the 9th time this year that he has gone for it on 4th and more than 5 inside the 20. Only once have they got the first down.

 

At the end of this game Mercer had the ball at the 5 and could have played conservative had they had the 3 points.

Mercer had a total of 413 yards of offense and Southwestern had a total of 385 yards of offense. The same Southwestern player fumbled 3 times inside the six yard line, he's no longer in the backfield. There was a fourteen point difference.
