I had a hard time understanding the play calling. :confused:

Can't understand why Jaggers refuses to go for 3.

 

In the first quarter, Mercer had the ball 4th and 9 at the 11. He goes for it instead of getting the points. When given a chance, the kicker has not missed a field goal all year. If memory serves correctly, this is the 9th time this year that he has gone for it on 4th and more than 5 inside the 20. Only once have they got the first down.

 

At the end of this game Mercer had the ball at the 5 and could have played conservative had they had the 3 points.

 

What happened on the extra pt. try after they scored against Rock?What happened on the extra pt. try in regulation against Hoptown when they could have gone up by 8?

I would like to see a rematch between Mercer and Southwestern. No disrespect to Mercer but Southwestern beat themselves in that game.

Interesting comment. I was at that game and I didn't that. Southwestern gave Mercer all they wanted in the first half but they were completely dominated in the 2nd half. Oh well, I have a feeling that they will meet again.

So have countless others who have watched Mercer play this year. He has made some of the most stupid play calls since Bill Curry had Tim Couch run the option at Florida.:scared:

I don't know about the Rockcastle game but in the HopTown game it was a bad snap that prevented the extra point. In OT of that game the kicker kicked a 37 yard field goal in OT. Pretty good don't you think?!?:sssh:

He is saying that he is retiring at the end of the school year and moving to Tenn. This makes alot of sense being as this is his 27th year of teaching and that his "Ace in the hole", superintendant Bruce Johnson is leaving in December. You probably will not find 5 people in Mercer that will be sad about his departure.

Not hatred but just not liked.

1. Won't play Danville even though the gate would be tremendous. He says that he is too good of friends with Coach Harp.

3. Last year he said that Mercer had to play 2 games against Tenn. competition because nobody in KY wanted to play them. Personaly, I find this hard to believe. Lexington schools, Bardstown (I heard that they wanted to play), Anderson (oh wait, they bought out of the contract because of the merger). I do know that 1 of these games was brought on by Somerset backing out of a scheduled game but the other game could have been filled.

Jaggers isn't a butt kisser. He never has been. He's old school and really doesn't care what others outside his players and staff think when it comes to football. He'll also voice his opinion if needed. He'll go directly to the source if he has something to say unlike others who seem to only do it on a message board. Some people don't like that.

 

There were people at Mercer who were unhappy when they went 15-0 because so and so wasn't getting enough carries or if they thought their little Johnny was better than the kid playing in front of him. As far as him and Coach Harp, they are great friends and both have stood firm on not playing.

 

It's a 'what have you done for me lately' kind of position. The sad thing about it? Mercer is already the District Champs in their 5A district this year (2nd in 2005, 1st in 2006, 4th in 2007). Ask some of the "loyal" Mercer fans how many times they have won the district in their oh so illustrious programs history before Jaggers got there? This year isnt even over yet.

 

In his 4 years with this one not being done. Jaggers has guided the school premerger/merger to:

 

1)10-2 Record and a 2nd round playoff birth. (The school hadn't won a playoff game in 17 years before that season, Jaggers 1st)

2)15-0 State Champs

3)2008. Already 5A district Champs and can quite possibly make a serious playoff run if they minimize the turnovers. I forgot, though, Turnovers are all because of coaching.

All very good points! I think Jaggers is an outstanding coach with an outstanding record. However, it is odvious that their have been some poor decisions (3 onside kicks against HopTown, several 4th and longs and not kicking field goals) made THIS YEAR that I don't believe have been made in the past for whatever reason.

By the way, I do remember a few people complaining about "little Johnnie" not playing but this was due to a couple of players from H-Burg that weren't getting to play as much because of the number of players and more talent when the 2 schools merged. I know that H-Burg's QB was pretty upset but he finally got over it and became a really good linebacker and went on to play at G-Town College.

As far as Jaggers being old school, ask anyone in administration (except for Johnson) what they think about him and I don't think that you will get a "he's an old school coach" answer. You want "old school"? Larry French, Sam Harp, Alvis Johnson and Chuck Smith are just a few. What do these guys have in common that Jaggers doesn't? I'm not one who discusses personal and family matters about anybody on here, let alone a couple people who I know very well. But, I want to clear up something in regards Jaggers' son, Josh. Josh felt it was best to move on and kind of 'fly on his own' if you will? In fact, Josh didn't leave because he wanted to "quit" coaching with his father. A great teaching/coaching opportunity in Josh's original home community, LaRue County, came open and a chance for Josh to learn under another very good coach in LaRue's Rodney Armes. So, Josh didn't just decide to up and "coaching" with his dad for the reason(s) that it seems like you are insinuating in your last post. Did it ever register in your mind that Marty also once coached at LaRue as an assistant, and that Josh has other family that either still lives in LaRue or is from the area?

 

I just had to clear that up for you and that's all I will speak of. I don't think you would want people talking family matters about you and yours, so take the liberty to not discuss someone elses. Take the higher road, not just with this matter, but any on here in disussing topics of young men on the field, coaches and their family matter(s) behind an anonymous name. Have yourself a good evening.
