Nice job, Berea...This is the RIGHT way to rebuild a program. Motivating the kids to play ball is the first step.

 

A couple teams around here need to take that tack.

They definitely are trying to improve the program at Berea. I've talked to several people who have kids that attend there. They are really excited about their team. This is most certainly a step in the right direction.

The whole purpose of dropping out of district is to have freedom to schedule "beatable" opponents. A few wins builds excitement, attacts young players, and instills confidence. The next step is to return to district play.

 

Berea seems to have done it right. Congratulations.

 

:thumb: This will motivate these guys to work harder in the offseason. Their district isn't the strongest either. I look for the pirates to come out and shake things up in district play! Congrats to the pirates!!!!

Congrats to Berea!! This is great news, I have nothing but respect for Berea in working towards and getting the football program going and keeping it going when it would had been easy to just give it up.

I'm going to have to agree with SB on this.

Congrats on winning.

BUT don't compare the success of this schedule to what is in store in the district in '09.

 

They will be behind Campbellsville, Lynn Camp and Williamsburg next year. They've beat Clinton County two years in a row so they would have went to the playoffs the last two years and will be in contention next year. Will they win the district next year? Probably not. Are they in better shape now than they were just a few years ago? Without a doubt!:thumb:

Congrats to you all at Berea! I've heard very positive things about the football coach at Berea and how he not only coaches on the field, but in the classroom as well. Ball players are front and center in classes and are expected to be a notch above the rest of the school when it comes to respecting teachers and completing assignments. You need to hold on to that coach, Berea AD. I'm so glad to see that school get it's act together in some of its sports as it has recently. Even the baseball team with Coach Smallwood looked a step quicker than normal this year with a winning season using several eighth graders and freshmen to get their wins. I sat and watched them play a game this year for the first time in long time and I was impressed with the attitudes of the players. Good luck in all of your sports Berea, but especially good luck in football. :thumb: :banana::banana::banana:

By the way...when people say that the good record is because of the easy line up season, point out that your one loss (Estill County) was to a team that just put an "L" on Harlan County which will be 5A in a couple of years. Harlan County is no slouch by any means and Estill County was exceptionally tough this year by anybody's standards. Keep your heads up, because right now, your turning other people's heads.

This is great story. Congrats Berea! If I remember correctly, Lynn Camp's program was down pretty low a few years back, but they have rebuilt and are again competative.
