I've seen Boone County play three times this year, and I really think they are underrated, for lack of a better word.

 

They block well, they tackle well, and they leave it all on the field. That's a good recipe for winning, wherever you play football.

 

I think they are one of the better coached teams in NKY, and they dominated the 6A district this year.

I believe that Ryle is going through an identity crisis with their offense. They are a long way from the offense that they ran two years ago to get to the State Championship. Now, we have heard that you must adjust your offense to suit your personel. That never seems to be a problem at Boone County. They know exactly who they are and they are comfortable with it. They may make minor adjustments from season to season but they never lose sight of what they do best and that is running the football. If you watch them closly they run about six offensive plays with slight variations. All educators know that repetition makes you better. One can only imagine how good you can be if you have lots of repetition in a 20 minute offensive signal drill in practice. I believe that Ryle has the players to execute that type of offense.The players and coaches become confident and comfortable with what they are running and that translates to confidence in the game. Please spare me about never beating Trinity with that offense. No one will beat Trinity or St. X until they have the same players as Trinity and St. X. The important aspect is getting your program good enough and strong enough to be able to get there to play the game.

I agree - I watched on ICN6 last night and was extremely surprised by the call on Lokesak. The TV didn't show the personal foul, so I couldn't comment on that. The unsportsmanlike call was extremely weak, though as it appeared he wouldn't have gotten in to the endzone without the dive.

 

Word has it that the personal foul came on a BC player who was running side by side a Ryle player and threw a shoulder into him (hitting him in the shoulder as well), the Ryle player left his feet. The Ref turn to see him falling down and ASSUMED the block came in the back. I too found it suspicious that the play happened at midfield yet the flag wasn't thrown until afte Lokesak crossed the goal line.

I was sitting behind Lokesak's father and he went nuts!

 

If you block a player, even if legally(not in the back), well behind the play, meaning that it will not have an impact on the play, it is a personal foul. This is done to protect players from unnecessary "peel back blocks." This rule was implemented a few years ago.

Quainoo is a very unique name. Wonder what the heritage is?

 

He was born in Kenya and his family move to the Bronx in New York City. They relocated to Bonne County several years ago.

Part of that was probably due to the defensive adjustment Ryle made at the half. They were determined not to allow the sweep as easily in the second half. I watched the game on TV and was impressed by the effort by both teams. Congrats to you, Boone Co. on winning the district.

 

Ryle made some good adjustments and Boone did loose some intensity. My son said that the coaches didn't care for the TV timeouts, it affected their momentum. So much of the game is fueled on emotion.

I don't think it's fair to call out the Ryle coaching staff. They have built a solid program over there and are a season and a half removed from a state runner-up. Boone just has a better team than them this year. Ryle is young, they'll be just fine.

 

What exactly is your definition of a "solid program"? I would say the St. X's, Elder, Highlands, Beechwood... they all have solid football programs. Ryle on the otherhand had a good couple years. To me a solid program is strong year after year and the coaches are able to make adjustments with the players they have and still win. It's unfortunate that Ryle has the talent on that team and still cannot come out on top. I'd be pretty upset if I were a parent of one of those players trying to continue their football careers after high school who are not getting adequate playing time when they should be. If you don't play and can't put up the numbers, you're not going to be recruited. IMO Ryle is far away from earning the respect around the state as having a solid football program.

All the schools you mentioned have been open for decades, Ryle is only in its second decade of existence.

 

Elder did not win a state title until 6 years ago. It took them decades to even reach the final four.

Ryle does have a solid program. They were playing for the district championship last Friday and lost to a more experienced and talented team.

Sorry this is a year old but this just bothered me. His parents are from Ghana and they moved to NYC, and that's where he was born.:ylsuper:
