Holy Cross 13 Newport 7 (OT)

Wow...Newport must have played very well. I would have expected HC to win this by a comfortable margin.

Both teams came out ready to play, it was a great game to watch.

It really was a great game. Both teams knew what they were playing for and it showed. I thought Newport came out like a completely different team and it shows in the score of the ballgame. A well fought battle that the Indians pulled out in the end.

Overall the Indians moved up and down the field, but couldn't put it in the endzone. Penalties killed them in the red zone and they just couldn't push it in. Andy Roenker and Brayson Smith ran the ball very well for the Indians. Newport had a very good first drive led by their QB throwing and running. After that HC's defense pretty much shut them down with the exception of a few plays. I thought Newport's QB was a very good player and will have a big year next year as well as the rest of this year as he was the power of their offense running and throwing throughout the game.

Newport came ready to play and almost upset HC on their senior night. With this being said, HC kept their composure and pulled out a win in a tough fought battle. Good Job Indians.

From a distance, it seems like Newport has really improved as the season has gone on.

Must agree!

Must agree!

I'll second that.

I really have to agree with this assessment.

Newport has improved over the past few weeks. Some of the internal discipline issues are finally getting resolved and the majority of the players are starting to focus more.

Sounds like a broken record for Newport, they need to stop the run, turnovers killed them, big penalties. Newport still showin that they have inproved with every game they play.

I see Newport close up and they are doin the right things and gettin it together at the right time of year, Newport coaching staff and players want to win they are a team everyone together. I look for Newport to get a little better next week.

Seems like this is a popular one to qoute, so I'll do the same but relate it to HC. HC has done the exact opposite of improving the past few weeks. They still can't convert in the redzone and their QB still is having trouble finding his targets. All and all HC has a long way to go and hardly. Enough time before play offs.

I noticed that HC had a lot of chances to put this game a way but just couldn't get it done in the red zone. Newport for the second week in a row managed to take advantage of mistakes by the other team.

From the Enquirer...

Roenker, who finished with 159 yards on 24 carries, said the winning play was called by the offensive line, not Holy Cross coaches.

"The line wanted an (isolation) on the left side because they knew we were doing what we wanted on that side," Roenker said. "It's all about trust with your line, and that proves it right there."

Kozerski had a slightly different take on the game's final, fateful play.

"When I ask what they want and they tell me what I want, then they get their wish," the coach said. "We felt like we had the matchup we wanted on that side, and Andy put his head down and bulled his way in."

Come on coach, give the players credit. Sometimes they know what they are talking about!
