Bishop Brossart 2008/2009

What does Bishop Brossart need to do to improve in 2008/2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

It's probably already been done. The key to success for the 2008-09 Mustangs was gaining the experience and maturity that we needed last year following the graduation of 8 stand-alone seniors.

Towards the end of the year this was a pretty good basketball team, beating favored St. Patrick in the the 10th Region "A"; knocking off Lexington Christian in the "A" State; and coming within a Hail Mary shot of taking down the 37th District Scott Eagles.

Despite losing three seniors to graduation, this team looks to pick up right where we left off in 07-08. Premiere coaching, solid guard play, trademark intense defense, excellent shooters, and a dominating forward who will become a household name this year, should all spell success for the 08-09 Mustangs.

Granted we are in a tough district, with Campbell County and Scott but we feel that we can compete with anyone on any given night.

Good luck to the Mustangs this year (until the All "A", anyway)....j/k :p

BB is very tough year in and year out.

They are the favorite in the Tenth Region All A every year.

In a few words--Continue to grow and continue to mature!! Grow & mature mentally as much as physically. To Mustang's point they've passed the "trial by fire" phase of this team's growth last year, but need to build on those experiences. This would appear from the outside looking in, to be a bit more versatile, perimeter oriented team; than many of the past editions, who've had dominent post men who carried the scoring load. I still don't think there's an heir apparent to that role roaming the halls in Alexandria?

Any Mike Code (or Code for that matter) coached team will start with defense, and I'd expect this year's crew will be no different. They seemed to progress a lot in that area throughout last year, and Reiger became a much better shot blocker later in the year. Size-wise (and don't shoot me Mustang) this group reminds me a little of the 2005 group (a true 4, a true 3 and a bunch of good 1-2's) minus a McDole type body--Lots of good guard/swing players with one very athletic swing player and no true center? Talent-wise they've still got a ways to go to measure up to that group obviously. Offensively they could be similar (outside shooting/slashing to the hoop) however, but will need to rebound more by committee without a McDole/Smith like tandem. It will be interesting to see how they develop throughout the year--Good luck to them!! They're always fun to watch.

Lots of talk on the Campbell County thread about the 37th being a two horse race between the Camels and Scott Eagles.

I think folks have a short memory in failing to recall that Brossart came within a last-second shot at the buzzer from taking down Scott, the eventual 37th District Champs, last year in that tournament, and that we also defeated Lexington Christian in the "A" State, who defeated Campbell County soundly earlier in that season.

The 2007-08 Mustangs made great strides last year, and lose only a single starter (Greg Stortz) from that team. While we may be vertically challenged, Brian Wolfer has beefed up considerably from last year and Nathan Brugger, who still might be a year away, is capable of providing height when needed.

Juniors Jacob Rieger, Jordan Armstrong, and Justin Morscher had a great summer playing for the Shining Stars and will be dramatically improved this season. A veteran senior guard corps of Mitch Patterson, Joe Webb, and Drew Kremer (G/F) have all come of age and are ready to leave their marks on the program.

While we may not be named among the top teams in Northern Kentucky at the moment, it won't surprise me one bit to see us right there at the season's end. As always we will need to stay healthy.

No disrespect Mustang...but I hardly believe anyone is selling the Stangs short. If I recall in an earlier MCIT posting, BBHS and Mason are already predicted to be in the finals and the Camels are in the same bracket as the Stangs. Plus being down by 1 with a minute and a half left in the game then losing by 8 due to fouling to gain possession of ball is far from beating someone soundly, especially in early December. We will see what happens, but I wouldn't give Campbell anymore motivation!

Not Camel bashing by any means. I have nothing but respect for the Scott Code's Camels.

Merely making a case for a three horse race in the 37th, and chose to do it here rather than hijack the Campbell County thread.

I have said all along that all three teams will be very closely matched. If I am not mistaken it came down to last second shots in the varsity and JV districts to separate out the teams. I think one of the top 5-6 teams in the region will be sitting home because they won't make it out of this district.

Probably true.

Never count a BB team out. I'm no expert, but I've learned that much over the years.

It's that way every year

No doubt which is why this district needs to be broken up. Move Campbell to Pendletons district.

Unfortunately, parity or lack thereof has nothing to do with it.

It's primarily about geography.

Be careful what you wish for ;)
