Fire experts meeting this weekend will search for new clues into what caused a 1977 catastrophe near Cincinnati that killed 165 people.

 

Rumors of arson linger despite a ruling that faulty wiring caused a massive fire at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, Ky., across the Ohio River from Cincinnati

I remember exactly where I was the night that happened. We were at a friend's high school graduation party. We all sat in his living room and watched. Couldnt believe it was happening. We had been to the Beverly Hills many times for proms, special dates, etc. Almost everyone around here knew somone who was there that night. Very tragic.

 

However, I dont see how, over 30 years later, anyone can prove or disprove anything. There are lots of rumors and theories, but none of them can change anything about that terrible night.

This is one of the worst local tragedies in history. I agree, they may never find the cause. Every year around the anniversary the local media have stories about that night. I find it interesting hearing the comments by those who worked at the facility, as well as those who helped fight the fire and save the lives of the many patrons. I'm interested to see what the experts come up with.

I know someone prominently connected to that horrible night. They have reason to believe the arson theory as well. I think we all just want to know the truth, one way or the other.

 

I hope that we can one day make use of the land where the club once stood. It's a sacred site to those who remember; but I think it would help close that chapter once and for all. It just seems the memory still burns on the site, and prevents anything from happening there.

Personal experience. I know it's a cop out; but I honestly can't say more than that.

I saw on the news this morning that the "Arson Experts" (their words) were going to present their findings to the Governor in a report today sometime.

 

Did anyone attend the meetings? Any idea what they found or if they think enough information exists to reopen the investigation? According to the news, the KSP declined a couple of years ago to reopen.

Pep ... I know that you have done a great deal of research on this subject .. I would be real interested in hearing a detailed (as much as you have time for) assessment in regard to this development ..... anything that you may add for us would probably be worth the time and effort.

I guess people just want to know the truth. If someone had murdered your loved ones, wouldn't you want--even decades later--to know?

I "think" they concluded that there was merit in re-examining the case. The group is going to take their findings to the governor in hopes that he will order an investigation.

I agree.

Many who believe it was arson feared for their safety if they came forward back then. The mafia was supposedly involved. I think it is a shame that it is being brought up again, knowing someone who personally got out while his teenage daughter did not. I know it breaks these families hearts over and over when the news does anniversary stories, but I agree with birdsfan that if my loved one had been murdered, I would want to know and I would want the person or people responsible to be punished.
