October 16, 200818 yr WHAT IF THINGS WERE SWITCHED AROUND? This is one of the most thoughtful 'WHAT IF' scenarios I have read. It was on a comment opportunity after people voted on who won the debate in a Colorado Springs newspaper. > > > Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched > around?.....think about it. October 16, 200818 yr I know a lot of educated idiots. I am for a college education, I have my BA. However, you cannot teach leadership or replace experience. Personally, I think the best ticket based on those qualifications would have been a McCain/Biden ticket. And if we are doing 'What ifs', ..... What if McCain had a relationship with a former terrorist and continued to lie about it even when confronted with facts? What if McCain had given over $800,000 to a corrupt organization like ACORN who were involved in voter registration fraud in numerous states? What if McCain's preacher stood up and said 'GD America' What if Cindy McCain had said after her husband's nomination "For the first time in my life, I am proud to be an American"? What if McCain had requested over $900 billion in pork projects for Arizona? What if McCain had no actual accomplishments to bolster his reputation? What if McCain said 'I want to spread the wealth around'? Etc, etc, etc... Now, you are accusing those who oppose Obama as being racist? So if anyone is critical of Obama, it cannot be because they actually have issues with his stances and/or his background, ... it MUST be race? What a ridiculous statement. This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference. We can argue why one candidate would be better for the country than the other. I have no issue with that at all. And we will disagree, which is fine. However, when we cannot discuss the positive and negative qualities of BOTH candidates because of the color of their skin, then that is another form of racism and we truly cannot move forward. I have never said that McCain is not flawed, ... he has even publicly admitted his failures and mistakes even when being found by a democratic investigator to have done nothing wrong (Keating 5). I have yet to hear Obama admit that he has ever been wrong about anything, ... ever. To be honest, if he came forward and said "I did give money to ACORN, but will never do so again unless they clean up their act" or "I did have an association with Mr Ayers, but when I learned what he had done, I cut all ties with him.", it would probably do him a world of good. They are BOTH flawed candidates and human beings (as we all are) and just because someone points out those flaws, it does not make them a racist. I am offended by your comments about those who disagree with you and point out Obama's flaws. Those flaws would be the same whether he was white, black, yellow, red, green, purple, orange, etc. Edited October 16, 200818 yr by MountainThunder
October 16, 200818 yr Over 92% of blacks support of Obama. 92% Hip-Hop. The rest of the country is divided pretty evenly. Who are the racists, Hip-Hop? The article is so blatantly one-sided that it is laughable. For instance, lauding Biden's Syracuse law school degree without mentioning his extremely low class rank and plagiarism conviction, while at the same time ignoring McCain's graduation from one of the finest institutions in the land by only pointing to his low class rank. Ignoring McCain sitting in a cage for 5 years, and instead noting that he allegedly "crashed seven planes," which, as the son of a Vietnam era fighter pilot, usually meant that they 4-corded a carrier landing or lost an engine in-flight. Ridiculous. Who is the racist Hip-Hop?
October 16, 200818 yr Author Well have you seen the news and what McCain and Palin's supporters are saying? I thought racism was a little bit out the window but I guess not.

October 16, 200818 yr Well have you seen the news and what McCain and Palin's supporters are saying? I thought racism was a little bit out the window but I guess not. 1. It is not all true. Obama used false information (granted he probably didn't know it was false at the time) in the debate last night. http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=163317 2. If you lump all McCain/Palin supporters in with a few nutjobs, ... you must not recognize that Obama/Biden have a few of their own. I heard at one rally where the several in the crowd booed when Obama stated that McCain was an American Hero. I would NEVER lump all Obama/Biden supporters in with those folks. But if you like, we can. But aren't stereotypes like that an underlying theme of prejudices? There are nuts on both sides of the fence, ... but it seems that you only believe they are on the opposite side of the fence from yourself.

October 16, 200818 yr Where is UKPat to cry out about this negative thread? This one passes. Just as long as we keep the anti-Obama to anti-McCain threads at about 15:1, we're good.
October 16, 200818 yr While I don't agree with all the points brought up in HHB's post, some of them really would be interesting if the tables were flipped, namely the 5 kids one. And before anyone starts throwing "well what if McCain was the one....blah blah blah", I'm just trying to respond to the first post of the thread. Obama would be viewed very differently if the roles were reversed, I think.

October 16, 200818 yr Hip-Hop Box, What if John McCain had an African-American grandmother, and he called her a "typical black person?"

October 16, 200818 yr What is the typical Black person? IMO, the African-American community is too diverse to narrow down to a "typical Black person". I'd say the same for the White community as well.
