Amazon.com Book description.

"This is not a book about the decline of America, but rather about the rise of everyone else." So begins Fareed Zakaria's important new work on the era we are now entering. Following on the success of his best-selling The Future of Freedom, Zakaria describes with equal prescience a world in which the United States will no longer dominate the global economy, orchestrate geopolitics, or overwhelm cultures. He sees the "rise of the rest"—the growth of countries like China, India, Brazil, Russia, and many others—as the great story of our time, and one that will reshape the world. The tallest buildings, biggest dams, largest-selling movies, and most advanced cell phones are all being built outside the United States. This economic growth is producing political confidence, national pride, and potentially international problems. How should the United States understand and thrive in this rapidly changing international climate? What does it mean to live in a truly global era? Zakaria answers these questions with his customary lucidity, insight, and imagination.

I thought you were going to say Socialism for Dummies...

Am I supposed to be disconcerted because a Presidential candidate reads books or because he's reading a book on globalization?

I got the e-mail everyone said they got on another board.

Like I said in my first post, the book is not bad.

William Ayers' books are on Obama's reading list and he apparently likes what he has read.

Then why even clog this board up with a thread about it?

Hey, not everyone can be Sara Palin and read every newspaper...

Why not?

It's interesting to me just to see what he reads. Wether it be a big deal or not. I'd also like to see what McCain reads.

Based on the summary, I think it's a great book for a presidential candidate to be reading.

Here you go, Ace.

Obama and Ayers had a connection not just through the education and charity boards, but in the area of juvenile justice. Obama praised Ayers' book on the subject in a 1997 Chicago Tribune review, calling it "a searing and timely account of the juvenile court system, and the courageous individuals who rescue hope from despair." - Ayers and Obama crossed paths on boards, records show
