What does Obama read?

Featured Replies

I've read Mein Kampf, The Communist Manifesto and The Case for Socialism. I guess I can never be president.

Be patient. In a few years, your expertise in social engineering may be in strong demand. :D
Which book? I am unable to pull up the link.

I've recently read Fuzzy Math and The Conscience of a Liberal, by Paul "Nobel Prize Winner in Economics" Krugman. That's probably more damaging to my chances that your book list is to yours...

I'm reading 2 books right now...The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet...that's to give me a break from my pursuit of economic expertise, for which I'm reading Competing on Analytics.

Hey, I was a Girl Scout...I'm prepared. :D

I guess P&R is one of the "grownup" forums of BGP (although some days I have my doubts), so here, from the immortal Tom Lehrer - the lyrics to one of his compositions, entitled "Be Prepared":

Be prepared! That's the Boy Scout's marching song,

Be prepared! As through life you march along.

Be prepared to hold your liquor pretty well,

Don't write naughty words on walls if you can't spell.

Be prepared! To hide that pack of cigarettes,

Don't make book if you cannot cover bets.

Keep those reefers hidden where you're sure

That they will not be found

And be careful not to smoke them

When the scoutmaster's around

For he only will insist that it be shared.

Be prepared!

Be prepared! That's the Boy Scouts' solemn creed,

Be prepared! And be clean in word and deed.

Don't solicit for your sister, that's not nice,

Unless you get a good percentage of her price.

Be prepared! And be careful not to do

Your good deeds when there's no one watching you.

If you're looking for adventure of a

new and different kind,

And you come across a Girl Scout who is

similarly inclined,

Don't be nervous, don't be flustered, don't be scared.

Be prepared!

A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court

As a teacher, it sounds like a book that I would be interested in reading.

From Library Journal

Headlines regularly depict juvenile criminals as extreme and violent "superpredators"?a distorted and incomplete picture that shapes the way Americans think and feel about poor (and mostly minority) city kids. For five years, Ayers, a former member of the radical 1960s Weathermen organization, acted as a teacher and an observer in Chicago's Juvenile Court prison, the nation's first?and largest?institution of juvenile justice. Founded by the legendary Jane Addams to act as a "kind and just parent" for children in need, the court today epitomizes the confused and confusing way American justice deals with children. In Ayers's book, an account of one year in his classroom there, students describe their lives, analyze their situations, and think about their futures. Like Jonathan Kozol in Amazing Grace (LJ 10/1/95), Ayers shows that we must overcome our preconceived notions of these children and learn to deal with the realities of their lives. Ayers is a born educator and communicator, with a voice of hope. Recommended for general collections.?Sandra K. Lindheimer, Middlesex Law Lib., Cambridge, Mass.

I am sure that Hugo Chavez would agree. He is a big fan of Bill Ayers' educational reform policies and vice-versa.

I'm assuming that you have read it then, thus able to truthfully denounce it, as opposed to the usual "by association" rhetoric?

I have not read it nor do I plan to read any of Ayers' books. The endorsement of Ayers' educational theories by both Obama and Chavez is enough for me. I do not need to read Ayers' books or contribute to his bank account.

Libraries give it out for free. ;)

So, what's your point? Do you read books at random or start at one end of the shelf and give all books an equal opportunity to be read? I have no interest in reading books authored by a terrorist and admitted communist. If that is your cup of tea, then you read Ayers' books and give the rest of us a report.

I'm just joking, dude.
