Yes... the Ft Thomas Jr Football League auctioned off the firing of the cannon during the games for several years. As I recall, the auction was well received at the Jr Football League annual fundraiser! That and getting to run out onto the field to retrieve the football tee... a big hit.

 

More importantly...

Congrats to LN and Henry521... two young kids living the dream in the land of milk and honey! So, LN did you reeeallly get down on one knee? PS: Another celebration on the Highlands "H" tonight? :thumb:

Boom has never shot more than a 6oz shot!!!! And that's only to start of a game. That's what we call the "Welcome Shot". The remainder of the shots are 4oz loads which are way way below what the guys before me use to shoot. With the right type of powder and proper packing technique. you don't have to have a big load.

As a die hard NCC fan I'm envious of the tradition that Highlands has with their cannon . In another thread it was stated that it was first fired in 1968 . That's 40 years . Now the questions .

 

1) Does anyone know how many times it has been fired over the years ?

This should be relatively easy to find out .

 

2) In what game (games was it fired the most ) ?

 

3) Over the years how many people have served on the crew ? Were there ever any women on the crew ?

 

4) Have they ever run out of Powder at a game ?

 

5) And given that it has been fired so many times has it ever had to be be repaired and has it ever been x-rayed to check for metal fatigue ?

For what I take to a typical game it would be impossible to run out. I think it's funny after a game when people ask me that question.(Did you run out of powder) I cannot speak for the guys before me on if they had ever run out.
