Not really interested in the flash, glitz and glamour, and if I really need the gambling fix, there are plenty of options nearby. The only reason I'd want to go would be during fall football season, or perhaps during the first/second rounds of the NCAA hoops tourney for a few days in the sports books.
October 8, 200817 yr Stay on the strip and you will make up the difference in cab fair. When I was there 2 years ago when gas was 2.70ish (they are higher there) the cabs started at 4.00 dollars and a ride to the strip about 2 miles away from my hotel was 13 bucks. I believe Circus Circus is a cheaper one. Any of the hotels on the strip are suitable, your not gonna find a roach motel on the strip.

Our last trip (April this year), we flew direct from Columbus on Southwest. $99 per person each way plus tax, no "added" extra fees, at least at that time. The headache with Southwest is open seating, so you have to print boarding passes as soon as you can (starting 24 hours before your flight). And it was a direct flight, so that was nice.

I am not a huge gambler either, JS. Although I absolutley love Vegas. The city offers so much and it has really become an adult version of Disney World. My wife does not want to do it, but I would love to move there.

My wife does not want to do it, but I would love to move there. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge gambler. I just don't feel any need to go to Vegas to do it.
October 8, 200817 yr The reason why I am thinking about staying at the Rio is because of the Voodoo Lounge and the other bars in there. There is about 10 of us going out and only about 4 or 5 that really gamble. I was thinking that the Rio may offer more for those that won't be gambling too much. However, some are going for the first time and I want them to be on the strip, which the Rio isn't exactly. I would highly recommend to you to get a limo to pick you at airport, with that many going it would probably beat price of cabs and no line, they will be waiting on you, 6 of us got 1 for like $60 bucks tips included. Cab ride to strip from hotel between 15 and 20, maybe? But I have waited a long time in that cab line before.

But you are right, it is much cheaper to get a limo with that many people. I think it ran me $17 for a cab to Flamingo over the summer.
