I went out there last December, normally the pool should be taken into account, but not at that time of year. Someone has already said it, since you aren't going to be staying in the room but to sleep just get a good deal.

 

I have stayed at:

 

1. Polo Towers - It's a condo across the street from the MGM, a friend owns one, it was free.

 

2. New York, New York - It wasn't bad, but was just there to crash.

 

3. I have stayed in one other hotel, but I honestly can't remember the name of it. I think one of the clubs in it is called Tao.

 

Seriously out of all three, the Polo Towers was the best because I got the best deal. It has no casino and I didn't really notice any difference between it and the other two. You can get a cab for super cheap or walk. Generally you can get at least two comped meals a day if you are gambling and the other one go somewhere good. My piece of advice is to always ask, we constantly asked pit bosses for comps and you'd be surprised what they'd give us, and if you don't ask you'll never know.

 

I'm a little worn out on Vegas, but twice in a year (one of those for a week!!!!) does that to you. I'm not going back for awhile unless it's for a bachelor party again or during March Madness. But it is an absolute blast!

Maybe I'll go one day after I'm out of college and actually have some money...

You just need enough money to get out there and play a couple of hands. Once you are there you can win as much as you want.

My mother-in-law stayed at the Orleans last time we were there. I went up to her room and it was nice as well. It is Vegas, pretty much anywhere you stay has decent rooms and good rates if you inquire.

 

Others mentioned this also. We rent a car each time. It is easy to get around if you want to go that route.

My parents stay at the Orleans, as well. They stayed at the Stardust for 20+ years and now have moved. Many of the old Stardust people went to the Orleans. They prefer the smaller, less flashy places to stay because they get almost everything comp'ed and then they can go to the bigger places for the day if they want.

I have stayed at a lot of places out there, best for price is probably Flamingo.

Mirage and New York New York are very nice as well as Caesar's, but a little more pricey. Plus Harrah's hotels are better on the comps side of it on return visits, I get stuff from them all the time, Rio is a very nice hotel, just a little out of the way. Palms is a cool place to hang out 1 evening and check out the ladies. Best cheap quality meal is at the Ellis Island just off the strip!

I've been twice, once on business and then stayed at my timeshare once, so I can't advise much on hotel prices.

 

I like just roaming around out there some of the time, thus I rent a car. I'd never been to the desert, so I spent some time going to Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Death Valley (yeah, it's really hot there in September), into California. Stuff like that. I just like exploring different things. There are casinos in little towns also.

 

Like others have said, the Strip is nice, new, rather corporate. Freemont is old, historic I guess, but they've tried to bring it up-to-date with the music and laser shows.

 

But you won't be able to do everything, that's for sure.

Also, if you rent a car, I do recommend you avoiding driving on the Strip. That can be a major headache.

 

But parking is free, at least where I've seen. If you don't stay on the Strip, I like to park in Bally's/Paris. It's pretty centrally located on the Strip. And if you use Audrie Street off E. Harmon, you can easily drive into their garage with no traffic or headaches at all. The street is just a block off the Strip, but parking that is fast and very simple. Then you just walk thru the hotels.

 

Of course, just walking thru these places can be a task!

Harrah's is comping a week in December for me at any of their properties. Was thinking about stayin at the Rio maybe. How was it when you stayed there?

Rio is nicest of Harrah's hotels besides Caesar's for rooms. They are huge w/ couch and recliner, very nice. The only problem w/ Rio is not a lot of table games, food is a little on the expensive side, and basically you couldn't walk too may places from there.

The reason why I am thinking about staying at the Rio is because of the Voodoo Lounge and the other bars in there. There is about 10 of us going out and only about 4 or 5 that really gamble. I was thinking that the Rio may offer more for those that won't be gambling too much. However, some are going for the first time and I want them to be on the strip, which the Rio isn't exactly.

The Rio is really nice. It is just off the strip (maybe a mile) but they offer a shuttle down to Harrahs (which is on the strip) every half hour or so.

Pretty much all of the hotels now offer plenty of entertainment beyond gambling.

If you stay at Rio , shoot over to the Palms, they have a lot of awesome bars, including the Playboy Club.

Vegas Is overrated , If I'm going to gamble I'm going to Tunica MS it's 3x better IMO.
