The American Buyout Plan.

Someone send this to Senator Bunning - he will lead the charge... Subject: Now this guy has a plan!!

The Birk Economic Recovery Plan

We Deserve It Dividend

I am against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. Instead, I am in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend. To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.

So, 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up. So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00. My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax-free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But, it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife have $595,000.00. What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

Ø Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.

Ø Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads.

Ø Put away money for college - it'll be there.

Ø Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Ø Buy a new car.

Ø Create jobs.

Ø Invest in the market - capital drives growth.

Ø Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves.

Ø Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else.

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we are going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 (“vote buy”) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President. If we are going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here is my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't. Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work." But, can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.

And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Kindest personal regards,

Birk

T. J. Birkenmeier, A Creative Guy & Citizen of the Republic

PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it's either good for a

laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought on how to best use $85 Billion

I very rarely come into the P&R forums due to my lack of interest and knowledge. This caught my eye however.

It makes since to me.

Someone who is much smarter than me please explain why this is nothing but a nice idea.

You've never met Jim Bunning, have you?

Sounds interesting but bear in mind that the AIG "bail out" is being offered as a secured loan by Uncle Sam, not a "no strings attached" grant. Also, depending on the final structure of the deal, the Government will have a substantial ownership interest in the company afterward. However, the ownership interest is subject to change based on the latest stories I have read.

Also, dumping that much money into everybody's pockets all at once, could lead to uncontrollable inflation and a run on pink plastic flamingos at Wal-Mart.

$85,000,000,000 divided by $200,000,000 isn't $425,000....it's $425.

I bought every pink plastic flamingo and all the singing fish ornaments last week. However, someone done stole all of the Dale Jarrett collector's lamps before I could get my hands on them!

Good math, sir! :thumb:

I actually did the math about 5 times to make sure I wasn't entering the wrong numbers.

$85,000,000,000 divided by $200,000,000 isn't $425,000....it's $425.

I caught that, too. I knew there were 5 two-hundred-millions in a billion. 85 x 5 is 425.

I missed the math. It did sound like a good plan.

Keep this in mind. If every family were to pay $95,000 to the feds the nation would be debt free.

I started thinking about this. Just putting the money into the economy wouldn't do much. This money was already put into the economy through loans that are not going to be repaid.

The money isn't going to be used to fill a void in the economy (plug a $700B hole), it is going to be used to create confidence in our system that will keep others from pulling money out. It is as much about the future (confidence) as it is the past (bad loans).

 I'll have to give them an IOU.

I'm so confused. I'm an idiot, so explain it to me:

How is an unsecured loan a good idea to a company that will most likely never repay? IMO, it's a "free pass". The government bails them out, and the tax payers repay the loan. That's crap.

How can fiscal conservatives back a plan that gives the government a substantial ownership interest in a private company?

I have no idea. This whole thing baffles me, I have read all I can find and I can't remotely get on board to support this.
