I know I'm a Homer about this years team, but If you believe West is on the level of this years wideout's as far as ability, you haven't been at the games. Not trashing Jeff at all, I think he is a fine young man, just my 2 cents. And Roenker is on another level than Philip wait and see. Cody was very talented but it wasn't the system for him. Rob and Eric, there is no debating, were two of the better players to strap it on for HC.

 

Let's start from the beginning. It wasn't West's fault Reardon couldn't get him the ball. If you remember, all the catches from last years WR was a circus catch. There was no ball thrown hitting the WR in stride. Didn't West run the ball back on kick off? What was his avg. run back? He avg.27.5 yds per return and ran 2 kick off for TD against a speedy Holmes team. He had 385 yds on 14 attemps KO. 16 catches for 256 yds. not great by no means. But he couldn't throw and catch the ball to himself. His has great hands with lots of speed. If the talent is SOOOO much better......why didn't these kids start over the WR from last yr.?

 

Roenker and Phil are 2 completely different backs. Phil was crafty. Andy is a run straight at ya knock you down. But a great back. Phil was in the mix getting big yds as a Soph. behind Penny. Last yr. Phil finished with 761 yds. on 158 carries. Again, not great, but respectful. Last yr. the O line was not the greatest.

 

Reardon........WOW........in the totallly wrong system. Coaches should have had him in the shot gun. He had no time to deliver the ball. That goes back the why the WR didn't do much. Cody finished with 778 yds., 130 attempts, 65 completions, with 3 TD. Again the line did nothing for Cody. Football is football. Cody did quite well at New Richmond.

 

The coaching at HC in all sports do not know how to exploit the talent. Year in and year out HC has great talent. Coaching is everything. if the kids do not respect you, you might get 70%. Every year Koz wants to over use the run game. When there are 9,10 defenders in the box.....you don't run the ball. When you have a 5'5" DB on a 6'3" WR you exploit it until the defence makes a change. You use what works. How many times has HC run the ball without a gain and will continue to run the ball time after time. You have to mix it up. Keep the D thinking. If I was coaching, I would run Roenker ragged, and have Robert Z. run the slant all day. The last 7 yrs. I've been attending HC fb games, I haven't seen a team able to stop the slant. I could go on and on. I rambling now so I'll stop here and wait for a witty reply.

Has HC football EVER won the BIG game? The answer is no. HC could never get past B'wood when the was in the same class or NCC then and now. Yes HC beat NCC 2 years ago. That was luck! HC has stayed close in games, but can't get over the hump. As far as talent, HC always has just as good talent as B'wood and NCC. They just need some good coaching. As I said, coaching is EVERYTHING.

I'm not saying the coaches don't work hard, because they do. As you mentioned, the philosophy is what needs to change. I said it last year, maybe they needed to try a different QB. We didn't know what the WR was really capable of if the ball wasn't thrown. I do know that Walker and West would have been a good combo if we had a passing game.

 

I would love to eat my words if HC wins the game and HC make a huge improvement this year. I do give props when they are deserved. I try to keep it realistic. It's OK to beleive in your team, but be rrealistic. I'll say it again, I love HC and want them to suceed, but we need smarted play calling.

You left out West's five dropped balls and countless routes cut short due to reasons....well, let's leave it at that. The other recievers didn't start last year due to bith being Sophs and Walker the current QB started out wide last year.

I just feel it needs to be known that he was not at fault here and the administration dropped the ball.

If it is an administration fault, then why let a kid suffer the consequences? What does this say about the administration if indeed it was them that "dropped the ball"?

I am not saying you are wrong because you would know more about it than me, but that just sounds a little off. There has to be more to it.

Good to see the love flowing among the HC community.

1.Yes Brad Hungler was good and I believe he still holds the record for touchdowns, the only one close to Hungler is Joe Sullivan.

 

2.Breds man what are you talking about, why would it be good for Kelly to sit out when HC plays the breds tough for the past three years at least. Plus these are the two teams who went into three overtimes in a down poor on JV two years ago, even though NCC won it shouldn't have happened a HC linebacker jumped over the line and stopped Kues. Any ways strongly disagree that this would be a game for Kelly to sit out.

I disagree... He might have had the best hands, but he was not the best wide receiver. But it's tough to even make any kind of call on that with the offensive playcalling at HC.
