Whitley came out hitting on all cylinders, for a coach who said his team prided themselves in stopping the run in the Corbin News Journal North never solved the Fullback of Whitley County. It looked like the players for Whitley took it personally when the North coach called them out.

Whitley scored at will and even kicked a long field goal to end the first half.

Good win for the Colonels on the road!!!!

With their performance tonight, I am going out on a limb and making them a solid TD favorite over "OPEN" next week.

I guess Perry Central want be a problem. I thought Whitley played Perry next. everybody thinks the win over Letcher was a fluke? I hope Whitley keeps thinking that.

I think Whitley will win the district this year just because they are so much more physical than anybody else in that district. Whitley is playing well right now and playing solid power football with just finess and flair.

Just wondering if you have seen the other teams in the district play? There are also other physical teams that will hit you. Letcher is a very strong and physical team. Even though they are not very big in heighth, they make up for it in strength. Very solid team. Perry Central has monster size, strength, and speed. 6'5" 350 lb., 6'7" 300 lb., 6'8" 290 lb., 6'5" 220 lb., just to name a few, and also a Very Physical Team. Clay County, in my opinion from what I have seen out of them, is the least physical of the 3. I have not seen Whitley or North Laurel play so I cannot comment on them. All I am saying is there are more physical teams in the District other than Whitley.

I saw WC earlier this year against Bell Co and they seemed to have a really good football team Bell was just too much for them. I think that they will win their district this year. NL didn't have that much for them Coach Black has WC going in the right direction.

You consider that comment to be 'calling the Whitley players out?' You have got to be kidding, right? That is a real stretch. Abbott does not call other teams out. Abbott praised the Whitley fullback on the radio after the game. I have never seen him talk smack about any opponent before or after a game, ... ever. You are trying to read meaning into something he said about his own kids that just isn't there. Why not just comment on how solid Whitley played on Friday because they certainly looked good. In fact, NL's AD commented to me in the past week that he and Abbott felt that Whitley was the best team in the district.

Here is an exact quote from Abbott from the Times Tribune

Abbott said beating Whitley County isn’t going to be an easy task, even though the Jaguars are playing at The Jungle.

“They are a very good ballclub,” he said. “We’ve seen their middle school teams and jayvee teams play in the past and we knew it was just going to be a matter of time before they exploded on the high school scene.

“We’re going to have to play a perfect game to keep this a competitive contest,” he added. “They’ve got so many weapons that can run the ball, so our hands are full.”

This was a very solid performance by the Colonels. They are getting back to what Whitley did well in the past, ... run the football. I think Whitley should be the favorite to win the district right now.

It appears that NL is going now where. WC totally dominated them and NL had no answers. 2-8 looks like the best NL can do now.

I agree the only win probably on NL schedule is Leslie.

Whitley Co is back!!!! After several loosing seasons it looks like they have a district championship quality team. Letcher County and Perry are both good teams and should be tough, but you have to love Whitley's momentum. I have said it before, this is Whitley's year to win a district title.

I think you are correct. Coach Black has done a great job in adjusting his offense to the talent Whitley has, especially at running the football. I think the district is Whitley's to win this year.

You are right that is what he said in the Times Tribune, but what he said in the Corbin News Journal is that he looked forward to playing Whitley becuase they ran the ball and that was what North was know for, stopping the run. In fact some of the fans even stated that they thought it would be a feast. Go buy one or look it up on line if they have the between the lines posted on the internet. So yeah he did call them out and they responded.

I am sure that he said he respected the Whitley fullback AFTER the game, especially after he had just run all over his team at will.
