Coach Brooks Double Standard?

Featured Replies

Actually, he said in his post game interview with Tom Leach that they have opened up the competition several times in the past, but Lonas always wins it.

I know. I could really care less how good a kicker does in practice. I mean to quote AI, it's PRACTICE. Seiber could be hitting them all over practice but we all see what he has done in a game. I want to see how our other kickers can kick in a game. It couldn't be any worse.

First, i think booing any player show a lack of class and sportsmanship. What would you do if someone came to your office and loudly criticized you while you were working. You wouldn't enjoy it. Booing doesn't help, it only serves to further hurt confidence. You can be upset without showing a lack of regard for sportsmanship.

Second, last year he did a very good job. Seems I remember a big kick to help beat LSU. Have you all forgotten that? He has definately struggled this year and his job does deserve to be open for competition. However, I think that you can be critical of a player without showing your butt by booing.

He didn't do a good job last year. He had one great game and that was pretty much it. Look at his overall #'s for his career. I bet he is around 50% for kicks from 30 to 49 yards for his career.

I just find it funny that alot (not all not even most) fans are defending their position on this with the weak arguement that he's a kicker.

It's true, he's a KICKER. His job is to keep his mouth shut and make FG's. Period.

What's harder, throwing a 15 yard out route or kicking a 25 yard field goal?

I say kicking a 25 yard field goal is harder...

It's not like he has to learn plays or schemes. All he has to do is kick all day long everyday. He's on scholarship to do just that, and he's not very good at it. He put's the team in some tough decision making situations and almost missed an extra point the other night. Surely coach Brooks can find another kicker that can be counted on at least from 42 yards and in. You say kicking a 25 yarder would be harder, of course it would you're not a kicker, but it shouldn't be that hard if you're a good kicker An extra point is 20 yards. You all are probably thinking I'm a butt, but this is SEC football and we need an SEC kicker. I'm sure he feels as bad as anybody for missing fg's and I do undrstand he's giving it his best, it's just not good enough.

A 15 yard out pattern shouldn't be that hard either if your a good QB. Personally I just think if you pick out a random person. That they would be able to throw a 15 yard out easier than kicking a field goal.

Old school thinking. So sad. Don't knock it unless you kicked before in the SEC.

Make no mistake. I agree his performance was to say the least...not good. I am open to someone else kicking. I just never liked our fans booing our team. When I hear the opposing team get booed by its fans I always feel like the game is in the bag. But we will obviously lose games if he continues to miss 4 kicks a game. The kicking game needs to be fixed somehow.

Ah, the ultra-lame "he's better than you" cop-out. One of my favorites. Operating under the extremely fallacious premise that the only people allowed to ever criticize a big-time college kicker is others who have been big-time college kickers.

Again, the guy's on scholarship to do this one thing, in the best conference in the country. There's gotta be somebody out there they can find who's better, if he's as bad as everybody says.

Peyton Manning never kicked and he criticized his "idiot kicker."

again, I have no issue with criticizing the kicker. He's open for that, based on his 4 misses in his last game. The job deserves to be open for competition, and if UK has a better alternative, we'd all like and appreciate that. However, the criticisism should not come in the form of booing duirng a game. That helps noone, and just make those that boo look like bad sports with no class.
