Nearly an App. State type moment.

Mayfield shot theirself in the foot all night

Nearly an App. State type moment.

I was just about to start a new web site, http://www.firejoemorris.com GeeZ Joe! do whatever it takes to get Lawson back coaching defense. Team attitude has got to be addressed but for now I'm happy but now have to go to the hospital to get stomach ulcer treated

All I can say is that was one of the worse 1st halfs you'd ever expect to see from a Mayfield team...They've been outmanned a few times over the years, but, this was just plain poor play, flat, no emotion or energy and Ballard took advantage of every opportunity... On a positive note, they did seem to play with alot of energy and a sense of urgency in the 2nd half... Who knows, this may have been the wakeup call they needed and the kids learned something from it, like they can't just show up and expect that name across there chest to automatically get them a win... Hopefully, this game gets there attention and they start playing hard from the opening kickoff, going forward. These next few weeks will tell alot about there character with some tough opponents in Graves, Crittenden & Tilghman..

Wow man, I am surprised to see you talking about coach Joe, but at least you are seeing some of the stuff that others are seeing.

Your taking my comments a little more serious than is intended. I am kidding since we won, which I do not do if we get beat but the team attitudes and egos do need to be addressed and that is Joe's and the seniors job to do. The seniors need to stepup and tell the younger Cards that this ytype crap will not be allowed. I heard more people making comments about what they saw players doing and not doing when the chips were down in the first half than I ever have in the pasts. The defense looks bad because of all the points but offensive turnovers caused some of the scoring and hopefully the D will be oka and we all know Lawson is long gone another kidding moment.

While they may have shot themselves in the foot and played poorly, giving up 38 points to Ballard Memorial is not a very promising sign.

If someone would have told me the combined scoring would be 80 points, I would have guessed Mayfield would be putting up 70 of those points.

Does anyone have stats?

I agree with you, Joe is having a hard time getting respect with those kids but I think the defense actually played pretty good for the most part with the exception of a big pass play but almost 75% of their points came from our offense coughing the ball up.

Embarassing and ridiculous!!! NO DISCIPLINE over the last 5 years is coming to a head!!! Mayfield football is sliding and someone needs to right the ship!

It does seem the discipline and pride have slipped some under Joe's direction...I can't even imagine players doing some of the things they do nowadays when Jack or Leahy was there...Over the years, you could always bank on Mayfield being a very confident, fundamentally sound, disciplined team that played within the team concept and a passion for the game... Honestly, that just hasn't been the case the past 4 or 5 years and it's frustrating to see... I don't know if it's the coaching style or what, but, when things like this happen, you have to look at who's steering the ship, just comes with the territory... I know the enrollment is down from past yrs and the depth isn't what it used to be, but, they still have plenty of talent there to be a strong 1a team, not that they aren't, but, it's just more the attitudes leave a bit to be desired...

In Joe's defense, it's alot harder job today trying to keep kids in line. It seems there is less and less parenting. Nevertheless, we have got to get ahold of these kids or a cancer will take hold. Some of the antics last night should not be tolerated period!

Anyway we still got what we had to have and that is a W. Does this rate as the greatest comeback ever? It's up there but the eary 80"s comeback over Ft. Campbell and the state title over Pburg rank as better ones for me but this was a good one. After getting past being mad that this was BM I really have to say it was a amazing rally

The difference in those 2 games, is they were against very, very good teams. Ballard is far from that, but, you're right, the W is all that matters and I do think this is a wakeup call, not only to the players, but, coaches, too... You can't convince me the coaching staff took this game any more serious than the players did, so, who's really to blame... You can't really expect the kids to prepare properly if the staff isn't doing the same...Throw in the fact that this game's sandwiched between the Ft Campbell and Graves game and you can kinda understand the trap game theory, but, still... Hopefully, you'll see 4 full qtrs of intensity next week cause they'll need it... It'll be interesting to see how they'll respond...

I REALLY don't think this will be a wake up call. Kids just don't care like they use to even 5 years ago. I totally agree about the parenting, but their star freshman isn't on the team...you HAVE to wonder why in the world the coaches would let that happen??? Make the kid do his homework instead of practicing!

I know several fans/supporters/former coaches who are REALLY frustrated over the last few years within the program, but it boils down to you have to have players who want to play and don't give up!
