BBA (10th and 11th Regions) assigning secretary Rick Chasteen resigned this morning after serving 8 years in this position. Word is that one of the reasons Mr. Chasteen decided to resign was because the schools in these two regions decided not to give the officials in the BBA a raise.

Mr. Chasteen did a fantasic job of being a "middle man" for coaches and his officials during any problems.

Best of luck to Mr. Chasteen in his endeavors.

Mr. Chasteen was a GREAT asset to these schools and to the officials. I wouldnt want to be the one to fill those shoes.

Why dont they split the regions and make 2 associations. That would cut down on the travel cost for these officials.

Kentucky high school basketball has lost the BEST adult that it has had!

Rick Chasteen was the best referee and would always give a 110% on and off the floor. He was a great supervisor for the BBA. Not one time did he ever have to change a story, what he told you was the truth and you could take it to the bank.

Rick would watch well over 100 games a year and watch over 300 referee's. He would stay after the game and talk to us for however long it took to make us better for the next game.

Rick would always tell us it was about the young men and women that played the game.

I worked with work and worked for him and he was the BEST!

Rick turned the BBA around and made it the best in the state. Whoever the policy board hires has big shoes to fill.

:irked:You know Skateboard your exactly right. BUT depending on who will take his place there could be a decline in the officials and the quality of officiating. Rick set the bar really high for the association and there had been vast improvements in the officiating.. He will be missed.

So why punish the kids and take away quality officiating over money?

Had a major disagreement with a refereeing crew about the ending of our district game once.

 

I sent Rick an email about the game.

 

He showed up within 24 hours and we watched the videotape together frame by frame and we discussed the ending of the game.

 

I disagreed still but was very impressed with his promptness and attention to detail.

 

BBA and 10th/11th region will be hurt by this. But eventually, someone will rise up and take over the task and do a good job. Might be a tough transition but it will happen, eventually.
