Really, do you know what minimum wage is? No one in any Wal-Mart works for min wage. In fact the average worker in KY averages between $10 and $11 per hour.

 

I do not know a single cashier who makes between $10 and 11 an hour. The people that I know who work, or have worked at wal mart, make no where near that.

Yeah they have a gun put to their head and forced to sell merchandise to Wal-Mart. :confused: Wal-Mart even has a policy that they will not exceed a certain percentage of a companies business, that way a company does not become completely dependant on Wal-Mart.

 

Wal-Mart lowers prices by controlling expenses (Wal-Mart recently took the light bulbs out of the Coke and Pepsi machines in the employee lounges just to save a minute amount of electricity for example), increasing income from non-sales related areas (recycling for example), having the most efficient trucking fleet in the world and controlling the flow of freight to the stores better than any other company.

 

The thing about wal-mart is this. When wal-mart moves into a city or town, the smaller grocery stores can not compete. They are finished. Therefore the vendors that were selling to that area are forced to sell to wal-mart if they want to continue selling in that area. Wal-mart can then control what they will pay for that vendors product.

Exactly. They may not be literally holding a gun to the vendors' heads, but they might as well be. Strongarm tactics and monopolization efforts are not the signs of a good corporate citizen.

If the smaller stores want to survive then they need to lower prices to be close to competitive. In Henderson Wal-Mart is a $1.00 cheaper on a gallon of milk. It's not Wal-Mart's job to keep others in business. If they survive then great if not then oh well.

If consumers truly have a problem with Wal-Mart, then they won't shop there. Otherwise, Wal-Mart should be allowed to provide convenience and lower prices for the American people

Should Wal-Mart sell their products for what the other stores price their's for? Like I said, it isn't Wal-Mart's job to keep others in business. If I can save $20-30 per week on food shopping at Wal-Mart then guess where I am shopping.

New cashiers don't make that amount when they start. The $10-11 per hour average is for all non salaried associates in each store. There are several long term associates, (including many cashiers) making over $15 per hour and many associates in Kentucky make $20+. I'm not "rolling out" any talking points either just posting what I KNOW.

Monopolization? What has WM done that Sears, K-Mart and Kroger didn't attempt to do? Each of those companies tried there best to rid the country of competition.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe not put undue influence on their suppliers to move their operations out of the US, eliminating American jobs and destroying towns in the process. That would be a start.

WM buys from the same vendors everyone else does, do you bash Target for buy items made out of the country. Don't quote same old talking point rhetoric that has been pushed by the anti WM crowd, I really expected a better answer than that from you.

Other than some music from 4-5 artist what is exclusive? Every store sells promo packs of items with bonus items or different colors that are only sold by that store.

 

Jim you normally give very well thought out answers. I was serious when I asked what would you do if you were CEO to make WM a better citizen. Give specifics not the pro union/Democrat rhetoric, but what you would change that would make the company better. Remember you have share holder to answer to so you can't just give away the farm.

The place is a trap...Go in there for some Shampoo, detergent & cooking oil & you come out with 2 DVD's, toys for the little ones, buggy full of groceries, fish in a plastic bag & some gardening tools. A trap I tell ya!

There are a few reasons why people do not, or can not shop at the smaller businesses.

 

1.) Many small stores go out of business when wal-mart arrives.

2.) The small stores can not compete with wal-mart's prices.
