For the record, NO Junior's play JV football for Cincy St. Xavier. No JV team in the GCL south plays Juniors on JV...ever. Never have...never will.

 

So T beat a team of 14/15 year old sophomores.

 

And I say...good for them! It is the single dumbest thing I've ever seen when a program has a policy to not play Juniors on the JV team. How do you get them ready for gametime? How do you get them experience for when they are seniors? What do you do if they have to step in for an injured player? It's silly and ignorant.

 

Full Disclosure: Colerain plays several juniors on JV and thank goodness they do. We don't have the numbers of any private school in this discussion so we have to, we have no choice. If it weren't for the quality minutes that our juniors received last year on JV, our Seniors (what few of them there are) would be absolutely terrible and I can assure you, we would not be 4-0 at this point in the season.

Good Point CF. (BTW, nice seeing the Cardinals on Fox Sports whupping up on the Vikings last night.) To further clarify, the GCL teams have what they call a "reserve team", that is what is on the St X website, that is where the sophomores play, so it is different than the "JV" structure in Kentucky and around. BTW, this X reserve team beat Colerain's JV team 31-0 so hats off to the Lil' Rocks. Conversely, they have an A team and a B team for freshmen in the GCL so they can get reps but that is against KHSAA rules to play that many games. So congrats on a good win but when Cincy St X plays T on the 19th, that's the real test.

And maybe all of T's juniors were held back a year so really they are seniors. That is noteworthy when comparing green apples to bannanas. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say maybe T's teams are just better. If there is a 5 year age difference let's talk, otherwise, in the spirit of the Ryder Cup, quiet please. I wonder if Europe is playing juniors????

I'm assuming he's referring to the practice some parents ascribe to of not entering boys into kindergarten until they are 6 instead of 5. I coached for a few years back in the mid-80's at the 7th & 8th level &, as a general rule, the boys that had started school a year later than their counterparts were at a distinct advantage physically.

Not sure, as I'm only guessing as to the meaning behind his redshirt comment, but it's certainly not something exclusive to any one or two schools. As w/ any school, depending on when the individual students started school you can have a senior age range anywhere from 17-19 yrs old.

Not sure what you mean, but Xgrad brought the subject up. Why don't you question him/her about it? Fifth year seniors are not all that uncommon. Parents hold their kids back for several reasons in grade schools, but to hold their kids back for athletic reasons, is not right.

Age wise yes, but the percentage is very low. X is no stranger to this topic.
