Did they repair the meniscus, or remove some of what was torn and inflamed?

We have a kid on our football team having this done tomorrow morning.

I believe so...If it isnt that bad they can actually just repair the ligament instead of removing the damaged part. I would assume that removing it would take longer to recover from.

That's likely why they didn't have her on crutches then. I've had multiple:madman: knee surgeries, it stinks, but I'm pretty much an expert about them at this point.

 

As many have said though pain like that is expected, it's a little harder on the body the older the patient is. I'd say she should be good in a couple weeks. However the only problem with this type of injury and her being a middle aged adult is that the type of injury can lead to arthritis. At this point with my history I figure I'll be in a wheel chair by the time I'm in my 40's. That or have a knee replacement by my 30's.

I had this surgery, but I had it done in '89 and I had some other repairs done. I was on crutches for 6 weeks. I had quite a bit of pain on days 2 and 3. Then it got better. I have a high pain tolerance and did not take any pain medication, so that may have caused me to have more pain on days 2 and 3. But, over all, after day 3 I had no pain, just frustration with the crutches.

Sorta, it doesn't reginerate so basically they'd rather repair it if they can, but depending on the persons age, and how bad the tear is they may just remove it instead. It really doesn't take any longer to heal or recover from, it's just not preferrable for the patient in the long run.

I have had a torn meniscus in my right knee for almost 11 yrs. now. Doctors have repeatedly tried to convince me to have surgery, but honestly, I can't take the time off of work for it. Plus, after my problems I had with having my tonsils taken out a couple of years ago, I really don't want to go under the knife again. :scared::eek:

had 80% of my medial meniscus removed a while back and I walked right after waking up from the surgery but the day after I was in crazy pain and could verily walk. My doc said this was normal.

Ha no problem, just tell her the good stuff. Her pain will subside soon, everyones different and it's not uncommon for it to ache a little down the road, but she's definitely lucky in that it was only the meniscus.
