I was going to point that out as it was conveniently left out of the first post.

It wasn't conveniently left out. It was not pertinent to running anything. The point being made was that executives make decisions. I've never been in the military but I'd argue that unless you're #1 in the chain of command you don't spend your time making many decisions. You implement/enforce others' decisions. You don't ask why - you do what you're told.

Neither do I, but something has to be said for it. Employing over 2500 people and generating an estimated half a billion dollars in 2 years is no small task.

Obama is the brand for the campaign, more of a figurehead. He gives the speeches and shakes hands. He has chief officials that organize and put together all events. This is no different than any other campaign, Republican or Democrat. He is not organizing events, crunching numbers, and running the HR department in his office.

Rudy was comparing Obama's inexperience to Palin's experience, Thus, defending the unwarranted attacks on her experience...:D

Whom he was comparing it to is irrelevant to the discussion.

Pardon me. Then please, continue with your relevant discussion.

I might also point out that Obama has less experience than I have. If you'll pm me your email, I'll send you my write in campaign information.:thumb:

mcpapa's post convinced me to use the word experience.

I believe that the qualifications (courtesy of presidentsusa.net) are:

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.

Whom he was comparing it to is irrelevant to the discussion.

No, its not.

Anytime someone discounts or dilutes a man's military leadership and experience, I always like to remember John Glenn's retort to Howard Metzenbaum.

McCain ran a business, his squadron, oversaw employees (officers and enlisted), implemented a budget, made disciplinary decisions, promoted others. My dad this, too (VFP-63, Miramar) and it is running a business.

McCain also served in the hotel industry. For 5 years, he was in charge of leadership at the Hanoi Hilton.

Certainly its irrelevant to this thread. You're smart enough to know , Hearsay, that the point of this thread (whether you agree with it or not) is that Rudy essentially said that unless you've run a business or a city or a state that you don't have the EXECUTIVE experience that Palin has. Again, I don't care whether he was accurate or not. The point of the thread is that he was also talking about Sen. McCain. I'm not debating actual experience between Sen. Obama and Gov. Palin. That's been beat to death already.

Come on, Hearsay, that's campaign rhetoric nonsense.

You think John McCain determined budgets? Did he decide who gets hired? Did he have to decide where to make cuts in the budget? Did he have to worry about legal issues?

Military experience offers a great course in leadership. Its not , though, like running a business.

As commanding officer, McCain relied upon a relatively unorthodox leadership style based upon the force of his personality.[179] He removed personnel he thought ineffective, and sought to improve morale and productivity by establishing an informal rapport with enlisted men.[177][60][179] Dealing with limited post-Vietnam defense budgets and parts shortages,[177][60] He was forceful in demanding that respect be given the female officers just beginning to arrive into the unit.[179] McCain's leadership abilities were credited with improving the unit's aircraft readiness; for the first time, all fifty of its aircraft were able to fly.[177][60] Although some operational metrics declined during the period,[176][179] the pilot safety metrics improved to the point of having zero accidents.[177][176] The squadron was awarded its first-ever Meritorious Unit Commendation,[175] while McCain received a Meritorious Service Medal.[86] McCain later stated that being commanding officer of VA-174 was the most rewarding assignment of his naval career.[180] When his stint ended in July 1977,[175] the change of command ceremony was attended by his father and the rest of his family, as well as some of his fellow POWs; speaker Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, Jr. said that John had joined Jack and Slew McCain in a place of honor in Navy tradition, a tribute that deeply moved McCain.[174]

This is from wikipedia.

That sounds an AWFUL lot like running a business to me. :sssh:

I'm not saying it's not true, but wikipedia is not a very good source.

It's an easy one to find...it's Saturday, I'm lazy, I know it's not a good source, but this is well documented. :sssh:

I he was a Naval flight squadron commander in the 70's, then yes he made budgetary requests and administered budgets, made promotional employment decisions and disciplinary decisions, including courts martial, and PARTICULARLY in the 1970's, was worried about legal issues and organized training and classes for his squadron on everything from sexual harrassment to race relations.

Dad has a cruise box full of this stuff. You're welcome to look at it, but I think you are being reckless by making bald assertions without having any knowledge.
